I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 4

Hailey didn't notice Gillian's reaction and simply set the breakfast on the table. "You have to eat it."

Without waiting to see if Gillian agreed, she turned and walked away.-

Gillian stared heavily at the breakfast on the desk, her breathing growing ragged.

The meal was lavish—oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and freshly baked pancakes. It was obvious the man had put a lot of heart into it.

But looking at it, she only felt a deep sense of irony. Married to York for five years, she had no idea he even knew how to cook.

She stared at the food for a very long time, until her eyes stung and watered.

Taking a deep breath, Gillian let out a mocking laugh and tossed the breakfast straight into the trash can.

At that moment, a colleague who arrived early for her shift walked in.

"Dr. Jordan, I heard the young girl you treated yesterday has serious backing." Chloe Langdon, a resident doctor, looked at Gillian and said, "She's a senior at the medical college. She was supposed to join our hospital but didn't pass the exam and got rejected by the director."

"But she's got connections. Do you know who her boyfriend is? York Foster. She probably just acted cute with him, and he got her right in."

Gillian scoffed internally. She was well aware of York's capabilities. Given how much he spoiled Hailey, if she whined a little, he would definitely secure her a spot.

She forced a smile. "People without real skills won't last long, even if they pull strings to get in."

"Well, good for her. Hooking a sugar daddy saves her decades of struggling," Chloe said with a shrug. "But you're right. Even if she gets in, she'll have to fend for herself. If she doesn't have the skills, she'll be out the door."

The evaluation system at Eastwood Memorial Hospital was notoriously strict.
