Aurora’s POV
The car pulled away from the arena just as the sky started turning grey- blue at the edges.”

I leaned back in the passenger seat and opened my phone. The two photos I’d taken filled the screen the surgical tools spread across the metal table, the rows of small bottles on the rack. I pinched to zoom in on the labels. The abbreviations were too small, too blurry to read clearly.
But I knew what that smell was. Disinfectant. And something underneath it – something chemical, sharp, mixed.
–
–
“Those numbered bottles,” I said, “I couldn’t get a clear shot of the labels. But the smell – that was definitely disinfectant and some kind of compound drug.”
Silas kept his eyes on the road. “I know a werebeast who used to work as a vet. I can ask him what that smell might mean.”
I locked the screen and slipped the phone back into my pocket. Then I turned my head and looked at him.
“You know a lot of people, don’t you.”
–
Silas’s ears twitched. A faint note of pride crept into his voice. “That’s what happens when you’re an S–rank werebeast. People — and other werebeasts – tend to gravitate toward you.”
I laughed. “Alright, alright. I get it. You’re impressive.”

He turned to look at me properly then. His expression was serious. “So I’m useful. You don’t have to do everything by yourself.”
Something in my chest tightened.
I looked away, out the window. “Mm.”
By the time we got home, it was fully light out.
Neither of us was tired.
I transferred the photos to my computer and zoomed in until the pixels blurred. Silas sat beside me, typing out a message to his vet contact.
About twenty minutes later, his phone buzzed.
He read it, then handed it to me.
The disinfectant smell plus a compound drug – sounds like a combination of animal–grade anesthetic and hemostatic agents. Usually used for minor surgical procedures or forced sedation.
I stared at the screen. “That confirms it,” I said. “The underground level isn’t for housing werebeasts. Someone is using those missing werebeasts for something that requires anesthesia and blood control. Either illegal surgery, or forced extraction of something.”
Silas glanced at me. “I’ll message the security guy. Tell him Freya’s safe. Put his mind at ease.”
I nodded. “Good.”
In the morning I put together a preliminary summary and sent it to my
boss.
I kept it short. No details. Just: current findings point to irregular

He called back within ten minutes. “I have a general idea of what you’re dealing with. What matters now is whether you can get stronger evidence -clear photos of their faces, operation records, anything we can verify
“I’m working on it.”
“Alright. But be careful.”
I hung up and leaned back in my chair.
The screen lit up again. A message from Kane.
Heard you’re looking into the arena situation. If you need help, let me know.
I typed back: Will do.
Evening. Silas came back from the racetrack with a box of hot takeout.
We sat on the couch and ate. The TV was on, but neither of us was watching.
