I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 207

By the time Nora, Xander, and Bonnie were well on their way, Felix finally arrived at Nora's building.

He parked his car, took the stairs two at a time, and jammed his finger against her doorbell. After getting zero response, he scowled, pulled out his phone, and shot Nora a text. "Nora, did you guys already leave?"

Nora received the message while sitting in the backseat of Xander's car.

Bonnie sat beside her in her booster seat, her little hands flying through the air as she animatedly described the colors of the lantern they were going to make. She was deeply invested in the story of another kid who had won first prize last year with a Handmade Rabbit Lantern.

Nora was listening with full attention when her phone buzzed in her pocket.

Glancing down, she saw Felix's message and blinked in surprise.

Why was he still looking for her? She instinctively looked up at Xander in the driver's seat. Hadn't he said Felix was going separately?

But she didn't voice the question. Xander likely had a valid reason for arranging things this way.

She quickly typed out a reply: *I thought you left early, so Mr. Harrison and I hit the road. Let's meet at the school gates.*

Standing outside Nora's empty apartment, Felix read the text, his face darkening with absolute fury. He aggressively pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a humorless, bitter laugh.

He knew Xander was up to no good. 'Head over by himself later,' my ass. The man had deliberately orchestrated this just to get some alone time with Nora and Bonnie.

Did the billionaire actually have genuine feelings for her?

Swearing under his breath, Felix spun around, practically sprinting back to his car, and peeled out of the parking lot toward the school.

Meanwhile, in the car, Bonnie finally ran out of steam. Her head began to bob, and within minutes, she slumped against the side of her booster seat, fast asleep.

Nora froze for a second, making sure he was actually talking to her. She pressed her lips together. "We're approaching Phase Two. The data verification for Phase One is wrapping up, and the structural models passed inspection."

Xander gave a thoughtful nod. "Have you partnered with a hospital for clinical application yet?"

Nora shook her head, realizing a second later he couldn't see her from the driver's seat. "Not yet. We haven't reached the human trial phase for the drug, so we don't need clinical partnerships just yet."

Xander nodded again and let the topic drop. Nora didn't offer any more details, and the car slipped back into silence.

But that brief exchange was enough to bleed the suffocating tension out of the air. It was no longer the heavy, unbearable quiet from before.

As they neared the school, Bonnie slowly blinked awake. She rubbed her eyes, poking her head out from the blanket, and let out a tiny, milky yawn. "Nora, are we there yet?"

Nora let out a massive, silent sigh of relief. The sheer pressure of being trapped alone in a car with Xander Harrison was overwhelming.
