Nora turned to look at him and offered a faint smile.
No matter what she did, Felix was always by her side, making sure she never felt alone.
But today, even though Finnegan seemed to side with her and the contract was signed smoothly, he hadn't uttered a single word of reprimand toward Seraphina from beginning to end.
Ultimately, his favoritism lay with her.
She let out a deep breath and turned to look out the window. The retreating streetscapes reflected her numb face on the glass, her features and eyes blurring together.
"Hungry?" Felix suddenly broke the silence, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, feigning a lighthearted tone. "Want to grab some BBQ behind the Old Quarter?"
Nora hesitated, but before she could answer, Felix spun the steering wheel to the right, steering the car onto the side road leading to the Old Quarter.
He smiled. "Don't overthink it. It's a rare treat. I know you've been under a lot of pressure, so let's use this chance to relax. Besides, we used to go to that spot all the time. You probably haven't had it in ages, right? You've been working way too hard lately; you need a break. Nora, don't push yourself so relentlessly. Nothing is more important than your health."
Listening to his barrage of irrefutable reasons, Nora nodded softly and agreed.
The car navigated through the narrow alleys of the Old Quarter. Even before they fully parked, the rich, smoky aroma of grilled meat and spices wafted through the air.
The scent instantly yanked Nora back into her memories, and her stomach gave an embarrassing rumble. Felix parked the car, looked over at her, and chuckled so hard his shoulders shook.
Nora looked away, feeling a rare flash of embarrassment. "Felix, stop laughing at me."
Nora offered a small smile. "It really has been a while." Felix just waved his hand dismissively, not even bothering to take the menu. "The usual."
The owner happily agreed. "You got it. Sit tight."
He turned and headed back to the kitchen, shouting over his shoulder, "Old regulars! Extra spice!"
Nora looked around. The decor was practically untouched from all those years ago; even the faded menu on the wall was exactly the same.
Leaning back in his chair, Felix studied her expression and grinned. "Well? Feel like you're reliving the good old days? Like you're in the prime of your youth again?"
