I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 234

But Nora had never intended to leave herself an out.

Director Winston stayed silent for a few seconds before slowly nodding. He looked at Finnegan, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Fred, pull the security footage. The Fletcher family conference room does not tolerate such underhanded tactics."

Finnegan stood up and gave his assistant an order. The assistant jogged out of the room.

Less than ten minutes later, he returned with a laptop, the screen playing the surveillance footage just sent over by the security department.

The video showed the empty corridor outside the office, the door firmly shut. When the timestamp hit 10:07 PM, a figure in a beige tracksuit turned the corner.

The person opened the office door, walked straight to Finnegan's desk, sat down, and typed on the keyboard for nearly twenty minutes.

The three directors universally turned to look at Seraphina. Everything was now crystal clear.

Seraphina's face instantly drained of color, panic flashing in her eyes. "No, this is fake! Fred, you have to believe me!"

Finnegan's face was livid. He only gave Seraphina a single, dark look.

Director Winston took off his reading glasses, placed them on the table, and slowly stood up, his voice dangerously cold. "Fred, what happens today is Fletcher family business. It's not our place as outsiders to say much.

But I will say this: future board discussions are not to be hijacked by personal vendettas. We will review the proposal thoroughly on our own time. We are done for today."

He nodded at the other two directors, and the three veterans filed out of the conference room.

The moment the door clicked shut, Seraphina looked at Finnegan, her eyes already red. She opened her mouth to speak, but Finnegan beat her to it.

After the meeting adjourned, Felix packed up the documents and told Nora to wait for him downstairs. By the time he pulled his car out of the underground garage, Nora was standing at the building's entrance, staring blankly into the distance.

He rolled down the window and called her name. Snapping out of her daze, Nora opened the door, got in, fastened her seatbelt, and leaned her head back, closing her eyes.

As Felix drove out of the lot, Nora suddenly spoke up. "Felix, when I was checking the operation logs today, there was a split second where I actually thought my own data had failed."

She opened her eyes, her gaze distant and somewhat cold. "But then I thought about it. I had double-checked everything countless times, and every single time it was flawless. So what I trusted wasn't that set of data, but the work I had done myself."

Felix felt a pang of sympathy and gently patted Nora's shoulder.

"Nora, don't worry. I've got your back."
