I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 247

Sienna practically sprinted over and grabbed Seraphina's hands. With red, swollen eyes, her voice came out rushed and shrill.

"Hurry, give me the money, Seraphina! I need to take it to Nora right now! She's really taking me to court, and I still have a business to run. I can't let her ruin my life!"

Seraphina's hands ached from the tight grip, but she didn't show a hint of displeasure. She gently patted Sienna's hand, guided her to sit down, and spoke in a soothing tone. "Don't panic. I already got the money ready for you."

She pulled a bank card from her designer bag, placed it on the table, and slid it toward Sienna. "There's five hundred thousand dollars on this. Take it and pay Nora back first."

The moment Sienna's eyes locked onto the card, she couldn't look away.

Observing her expression, Seraphina injected just the right amount of distress and hesitation into her voice. She lowered her head slightly. "Sienna, promise me you won't tell anyone about my secret. Okay?"

Sienna snapped out of her daze and nodded frantically, plastering a massive smile on her face. "Of course! I promised you, didn't I? Why would I go back on my word?"

But as she reached out to snatch the card and shove it into her pocket, entirely different calculations were swirling in her mind.

Getting money out of Seraphina was actually this effortless. She barely had to lift a finger.

What was there to be afraid of anymore? As long as she held onto this secret, forget five hundred thousand—she could wring a million, or even two million dollars out of her if she tried.

Everything Seraphina possessed would become Sienna's personal ATM.

Watching Sienna stare down in deep thought, Seraphina caught every ounce of the fleeting greed and calculation in her eyes.

She tried to stand, but her body slipped from the chair, crashing to her knees on the floor. She frantically reached her hand out toward Seraphina.

Only muffled, broken whimpers rattled in her throat, while her lips rapidly turned a bruised, sickly purple.

Seraphina's face shifted. She hurried over, squatted down, and grabbed Sienna's shoulders, her voice brimming with utter panic. "What's wrong, Sienna?! Don't scare me! Say something!"

Sienna whimpered in agony, gripping her throat like a vice. Her trembling hand pointed to her own neck as tears and snot poured down, completely covering her face.

She could hear everything Seraphina was saying, and she desperately wanted to answer, but it felt as if her throat had been cemented shut from the inside. No matter how hard she strained, she could only force out raspy, barely audible wheezes.

Seraphina collapsed backward onto the floor in sheer terror. With bloodshot eyes and a voice thick with sobs, she cried out, "Don't scare me, Sienna! What's happening to you?! What's wrong with your neck?! Can you not speak?!"
