I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 248

She didn't call 911 immediately. Instead, she knelt on the floor, continuously patting Sienna's back over and over again, letting the seconds tick away into minutes.

She knew the damage this neurotoxic agent inflicted on the vocal cords was irreversible, but the severity depended entirely on how fast the victim received medical care. The longer she delayed, the more extensive the vocal cord fibrosis would be, drastically shrinking the chances of recovery.

Every minute stalled was a minute gained. She had to guarantee that Sienna's mouth would be permanently sealed shut.

Only dead men and mutes keep secrets. Sparing Sienna's life was already an act of immense mercy.

Did an idiot like Sienna really think she was worthy of using that secret to blackmail her? Dream on.

When she figured she had stalled long enough, she finally pulled out her phone and dialed 911, her frantic panic perfectly orchestrated.

The ambulance arrived shortly after. Sienna was loaded onto a stretcher and pushed into the back, with Seraphina sitting faithfully by her side, holding her hand, tears streaming down her face endlessly.

Even the paramedics assumed she was the patient's biological sister.

The red light above the operating room doors stayed lit for nearly two hours.

Seraphina sat on a bench in the hallway, her back pressed against the freezing wall. The anxious, devastated expression on her face was so convincing she almost believed it herself.

Finally, the doors swung open, and Sienna was wheeled out. Her neck was wrapped in thick bandages, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.

Seraphina instantly shot up from the bench, rushed over, and grabbed the doctor's hand, her voice shaking. "Doctor, how is she? Will she be able to speak?"

The doctor pulled down his mask, let out a heavy sigh, and shook his head.

A thrill of joy surged through Seraphina's heart, but her face immediately contorted into a mask of disbelieving agony.

Trying to blackmail her? In her dreams.

Letting Sienna live was the absolute pinnacle of her benevolence.

But she wasn't going to stop there. She was going to use this opportunity to pin the blame entirely on Nora.

Now that Sienna was mute, no one would ever know what truly happened at The Roastery that day.

She was going to make everyone believe that Nora's ruthless debt collection drove Sienna to absolute despair, forcing her to attempt suicide. She would make sure Nora was so deep in the mud she could never wash herself clean.

She would let the two people she hated most tear each other apart, while she simply sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the show.
