I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 249

Sienna slowly drifted awake. Her eyes snapped open, the sheer terror from right before she lost consciousness still lingering in her pupils.

As if violently yanked from a nightmare, she shot up from her pillow, opened her mouth, and began to scream hysterically.

But not a single word came out. She frantically touched her neck, feeling the thick layers of gauze, and her eyes instantly bloodshot.

"Ahhhhhh!"

Her voice was gone! She would never be able to speak again!

Seeing her awake, Seraphina immediately stood up from her chair and rushed to the bedside. At the sight of Sienna's state, her eyes instantly reddened, unshed tears clinging to her lashes. Her voice was incredibly soft and cautious.

"Sienna? How are you feeling? Are you doing any better? You terrified me. I thought you were never going to wake up..."

Sienna let out a crushing, soundless roar. The veins in her neck bulged violently, but she could only produce a hoarse, barely audible whimper.

Summoning every ounce of her strength, she raised a violently trembling finger and pointed it directly at Seraphina, her gaze completely loaded with accusation and visceral hatred.

It was you. You gave me that glass of wine. You did this to me!

Seraphina hurriedly reached out to hold down her flailing arm, her brow furrowing with concern. "You have an IV in right now. You can't thrash around. Your wound hasn't healed yet, and you're going to rip the needle out."

Sienna glared at her viciously, struggling to raise her arm again, pointing straight at Seraphina's face while muffled whimpers tore from her throat.

After reading the pure venom in Sienna's eyes, Seraphina reacted as if she had been physically struck, looking profoundly wounded.

She released Sienna's arm, staggered half a step back, and spoke with a shattered voice. "You hate me? Are you saying you hate me? You think I did this to you?"

Seraphina stayed quiet for a few seconds before letting out a soft, self-deprecating laugh.

She sat back down on the edge of the bed and let out a gentle sigh.

"You must think I poisoned you, don't you? Sienna, I had no idea this would happen. I was so happy to see you. I had the money ready, eager to help you get through this crisis."

"Why would I do something like this? If I didn't want to lend you the money, I could have just said no from the start. Did you seriously think I was terrified of you exposing my secret?"

She paused, acting as if the next words were incredibly hard to admit but had to be said.

"Sienna, you need to understand that it's not even a secret to me. Finn only has me in his heart. Even if you announced it to the world, what's the worst that could happen? We'd finally be able to be together openly. You thought a few words from you could ruin my life, but they can't. So I have absolutely zero motive to silence you like this. Do you understand?"
