I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 263

Finnegan took the phone Seraphina handed him, scrolling through the chat logs between her and Sienna line by line.

Seraphina's tone was anxious and concerned, pleading with Sienna one sentence after another not to be impulsive, while Sienna's replies grew increasingly paranoid.

After he finished reading the logs, the heavy weight that had been pressing on his chest all day finally dropped, replaced by a surging, intense wave of guilt.

Sienna was actually capable of doing something like this, and yet he had been doubting Seraphina just moments ago.

He reached out and pulled Seraphina into his arms, resting his chin on her forehead, his voice full of apology. "I understand now. Don't worry, I won't let you be wrongfully suspected. I was wrong just now. I shouldn't have asked you that."

Seraphina buried her face in his chest, her lips curving up into a slight smile at an angle he couldn't see, though her tone remained aggrieved. "You can't do that ever again."

Meanwhile, Nora was in the security room, reviewing the surveillance footage from the press conference venue.

Her gaze swept back and forth across the screens before suddenly stopping.

In the corner of the fire escape, a figure wearing a baseball cap peeked out from the crack of the door.

"Pause it right here."

Nora zoomed in on the image, and the person's face gradually emerged through the blurry pixels.

Sienna!

Nora's pupils shrank drastically, her heart feeling as if it had been viciously yanked from her chest. Breathing became difficult in that instant.

She had considered many possibilities, but she never imagined the person coming after her would be Sienna.

She had said she would sue her, but that lawsuit had sat in her drawer for so long without ever being officially filed.

He could feel Nora's sorrow at this moment, but he just couldn't quite understand why someone would give another person repeated chances to hurt them.

The damage was already done, so why let them hurt you again in your own mind?

He looked at Nora, his tone flat and serious. "Stop thinking about it. You're just giving her the opportunity to hurt you in your consciousness. When someone hurts you, you have to pick up the weapon of the law to protect yourself. Nora, don't hesitate. Your hesitation is the blade that cuts yourself."

Nora froze for a moment, turning to look at him.

Xander's expression was as cold as usual, but when he said those words, there was a look in his eyes she had never seen before.

She let out a deep breath, fighting back her tears. "Thank you, Mr. Harrison. I understand."

When Nora found Sienna, she was hiding in a rental apartment.
