I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 268

Seraphina murmured an agreement. After hanging up the phone, she cast one more glance at Nora's back but ultimately decided against going after her. She organized the data on hand and left the institute early.

When she arrived at the hospital, Seraphina found Cassie there as well. The little girl was sprawled on the couch, her little butt in the air, completely engrossed in playing a dress-up game on her tablet. Her little legs dangled off the edge of the sofa, looking absolutely adorable.

Hearing the sound of the ward door opening, she looked up, saw it was Seraphina, and instantly tossed the tablet aside. Jumping off the sofa, she ran over and threw herself into her arms, her tiny arms wrapping tightly around her waist, rubbing her little face against her clothes while calling out in her sweet voice, "Seraphina! I missed you!"

Seraphina crouched down to hug her, gently patting her back. Her tone struck the perfect balance of gentleness and doting affection. "I missed you too. Why are you here, Cassie?"

Cassie tilted her head up from her embrace and earnestly explained, "I heard Dad was sick in the hospital, so I came over."

After speaking, she turned to look at Finnegan, who was lying on the bed flipping through documents. She pouted unhappily, her voice full of undisguised resentment.

"Why didn't Mom come? Dad is sick, and she didn't even want to come see him. Mom is so annoying, so selfish. She doesn't think about anyone else at all."

Hearing this, Seraphina smirked inwardly, but immediately arranged her face into an expression of conflicted tolerance.

She gently patted Cassie's shoulder, speaking softly, "Cassie, don't talk about Mom like that. Mom might just be too busy with work to come over. You have to be understanding of Mom, okay?"

Seraphina paused for a moment, then added casually, as if talking to herself, "Nora seemed really sad. I saw her crying."

Upon hearing this, Finnegan's brow furrowed, and the concern and care in his voice slipped out almost immediately. "She was crying?"

Seraphina had only intended to test his reaction to this, but Finnegan's concern was entirely too obvious, and the smile on her face instantly vanished.

"You really care about her?"
