Victoria glared at her brother in disbelief. "You're just going to let him get away with this?"
Benedict cast a freezing stare at his spoiled sister, his expression merciless. "Did you not hear me?"
Since Benedict was still the indisputable head of the Newman family, Victoria didn't dare push back. Swallowing her bitter resentment, she shot Nora a vicious glare and stormed off toward the guest rooms.
Benedict cast an emotionless glance at Nora before turning to Xander, his tone softening marginally. "Xander, let's step inside. I brought you here today specifically to finalize this arrangement."
His last sentence was clearly directed at Nora, yet he refused to look her in the eye.
Lowering her head, Nora felt a surge of bitterness in her chest. Letting out a heavy sigh, she followed them deeper into the estate.
Since the memorial hadn't officially begun, Nora paused the moment she stepped inside, her eyes locking onto her mother's portrait on the memorial altar.
In that instant, it was as if her feet were glued to the floor. A sudden, intense heat pricked her eyes, and tears began to spill down her cheeks like a broken string of pearls.
Her mother's face remained as beautiful and youthful as ever, carrying the same gentle smile she wore the day she affectionately patted Nora's head before the accident.
It felt as though Nora could still feel the warmth of her mother's palms. The agonizing grief she had kept locked away for years suddenly found an exit, pouring out uncontrollably.
"Let's go," Xander said softly, gently patting her shoulder. "It hasn't started yet. Let's go chat first."
Nora turned to him, her eyes bright red. "Alright."
Benedict led them into a private study. His demeanor toward Xander was remarkably respectful. "Have a seat, Xander."
Xander and Nora took their seats opposite him.
