I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 308

Nora suddenly realized this man was surprisingly respectful of boundaries, shifting her perspective on Xander entirely.

Watching their dynamic, Benedict nodded before speaking up. "Xander, could you give me a moment alone with..."

He paused mid-sentence, leaving the thought unfinished.

Xander immediately understood his cue. He slowly rose to his feet and gave Nora's shoulder a light squeeze. "Message me if you need anything."

Hearing that, Benedict felt a prickle of annoyance. His expression cooled.

The way Xander phrased it made it sound like Benedict was going to harm her. Regardless of their history, he was still her father.

Xander smiled faintly, adjusted his suit jacket, and walked out. Instantly, the private room felt heavy, occupied only by Nora and Benedict.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence in the room grew suffocating.

Nora glanced at him, wondering what her father had kept her back to say.

After what felt like an eternity, Benedict finally broke the silence, his deep voice echoing in the quiet room.

"Nora, do you hold any resentment toward me?"

Nora froze, caught off guard by the question. "Dad, why would you ask that?"

Benedict crossed his legs, leaning back into the sofa, his sharp gaze fixed on her. "Why? When you walked in today, was your first thought 'I'm finally home,' or 'I hate him for shutting me out all these years'?"

Nora shook her head. "I've never resented you. Never."

She could understand her father's agony over losing his beloved wife, which was why she had patiently waited for the day he healed enough for them to reconcile.
