Dominic paused for dramatic effect, letting out a condescending chuckle. "Makes you wonder how two women can end up with such vastly different lives, doesn't it?"
Nora looked at him, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Dominic certainly knows a lot of people to have heard about that."
Dominic sneered. "I work in a related medical field, after all. I've already made contact with the lead researcher. If all goes well, I'm meeting with them tomorrow to discuss a potential collaboration."
Nora raised an eyebrow. How was she entirely unaware of this? Had Zelda Vance arranged a meeting with Dominic behind her back?
She immediately dismissed the thought. Zelda discussed every major detail of the institute with her. There was zero chance she would keep a high-profile meeting a secret. That meant there was only one logical explanation: Dominic was completely full of it.
Seraphina also frowned, clearly recognizing the lie, but she had no intention of calling him out. If someone was going to make an enemy today, let it be Nora.
To everyone's surprise, Xander let out a low, amused scoff. "Is that so?"
Dominic hadn't expected the billionaire to actually engage with him. Instantly flattered, he fought to keep his smugness from fully taking over his face.
He had long heard the rumors. Nora had married Finnegan, quit her job, and dedicated her life to being a housewife. Then, five years into the marriage, her husband supposedly died. For the past five years, she had been raising a child on her own. How could she possibly have the time or energy to work?
That gave him free rein to mock her. When they were kids, Nora had constantly outshone him in academics and everything else. This was simply karma finally catching up to her.
He gave a cocky laugh. "Of course. If you need any introductions, Mr. Harrison, we can definitely discuss it outside later."
Nora shot Xander a quick glance, choosing not to expose her cousin just yet. The research was in a critical phase, and the fewer people who knew about it, the better. She had no desire to reveal her identity and invite pointless jealousy and sabotage.
