Nora paused, crouching down to gently pull Bonnie into her arms. "Didn't you miss me?"
Bonnie blinked, rubbing her eyes before turning to look toward the kitchen.
Xander was leaning against the doorframe, a faint smile on his lips. Bonnie instantly caught his drift. She threw her arms around Nora's neck and said sweetly, "Yeah! I missed you so much, and I wanted you to come see me. You haven't been here in days. Daddy said you were super busy with work, so I didn't dare bother you."
Nora smiled and pinched Bonnie's soft cheek. "You're such a good girl. Is there anything special you want to eat?"
Bonnie thought about it. "No, I just want you to tuck me in and coax me to sleep."
Nora smiled and agreed.
Then she turned to look at Xander. "I guess I'm off to put my new favorite person to bed."
A low, simple hum vibrated from Xander's throat. "Mm."
Nora carried Bonnie upstairs, getting an early taste of what it was like to raise a child. Bonnie was so well-behaved that it wasn't tiring at all.
Nora really liked this feeling. Bonnie was much easier to take care of than Cassie.
Inside the bedroom, Nora set Bonnie down on the mattress, pulled the covers over her, and then walked over to the bookshelf to grab a fairy tale book, placing it in front of the little girl.
"Which one do you want to hear?"
Bonnie shook her head, her eyes brimming with a mischievous, childlike smile. "I don't want to hear these stories."
