His clothes were completely soaked from the rain, making him look pathetic. He spoke with a raspy voice.
"A lot has happened at the company recently. Five bids failed in a row. People on the board are teaming up to push me out, and I can't figure out who it is. I haven't slept in days. When I was sitting in my office today, I suddenly missed you so much. In the past, when I was busy until late, you would always make me a warm drink and quietly keep me company."
Finnegan choked up. "Nora, I know I was wrong. I was an absolute bastard. I didn't cherish you, and I did too many things that broke your heart. You have every right to hate me and resent me. But please, can you give me one more chance? Just one. I'm not asking for your forgiveness right now. I'm just begging for a chance for us to start over."
Finnegan's eyes burned with desperate longing. He wanted to take a step toward her but was terrified she would pull away, so he stayed frozen in place, staring at her.
If it weren't for everything he had put her through, his current state truly would have looked pitiful.
But seeing him like this only gave Nora a deep sense of satisfaction. "I'm married, Finnegan."
A sudden spark of unhinged hope flared in Finnegan's eyes. He took an eager step forward but forced himself to stop. "I can be your secret lover! Please? I can be the other man in your marriage. As long as you can spare some time to be with me, I'll take it."
Nora was genuinely appalled by his delusion, her brows knitting together in disgust. "Are you out of your mind? Do you even hear yourself?"
"I'm perfectly lucid," Finnegan pleaded. "I just want to beg you for another chance. If you just come back to me, I'll agree to anything. I'll give you whatever you want."
