She wanted him to say it clearly.
Absolutely clearly.
But the decision Evan had made was already difficult enough for him.
How could he possibly bring himself to spell it out?
He knew why she was forcing him to say it.
She wanted him to remember every word he said today.
And she would remember too.
Once he said it plainly, whatever remained between them would be…
“Stella.”
“Evan, you want to do something despicable, but you’re still too ashamed to admit it?”
If he could not even say the words aloud, then he clearly knew how contemptible his decision was.
Yet he had made that choice anyway while refusing to face what it said about him.
Evan’s chest tightened painfully.
“You…”
“Then forget it. I’m not going.”
Stella’s voice was firm.
As long as Evan refused to state his intentions clearly, she would not go anywhere.
With that, she rose to her feet.
She no longer wanted to look at him and headed for the door.
Evan stared at her retreating figure.
“You’ll go first and bring Yara back.”
At last, he said it.
He finally voiced the decision that caused him so much pain.
The decision Stella had insisted on hearing in unmistakable terms.
He had said every word clearly.
Stella stopped.
She did not turn around.
A chilling force radiated from her back, cold enough to freeze Evan in place.
He had never seen this kind of presence from her before.
Even he found himself unable to move beneath the pressure of it.
Stella gave a cold laugh.
Then she turned to face him.
