She was mocking the days when Evan had desperately tried to keep her by his side.
Back then, he had truly wanted her with everything he had.
But what did any of that mean now?
Nothing.
Stella had never wanted his devotion. She had tried to escape from him again and again.
Yet after what Evan was doing now, even the man he had once been seemed like a complete joke.
And her words forced Evan to see just how ridiculous he had become.
He looked at her, barely able to breathe.
“Why do you have to say that?”
Every word felt like a knife driven straight into his chest.
“Fiona was released from prison. Now you want to trade me for Yara. Evan, have you ever respected me at all?”
None of that was even the point.
Stella was saying it now because she wanted him to take a good look at himself and see just how shameless he was being.
Evan’s face turned pale.
“I’m sorry.”
The apology came with great difficulty.
Then he added, “But just this once…”
No matter what, this would be the last time.
After this, he would never allow another member of the Wright family to fall into Aaron’s hands.
“You’re always like this,” Stella said. “You can never get your priorities straight.”
Evan said nothing.
“I told you a long time ago. A man like you has no right to get what he wants.”
Especially the love he claimed to want so badly.
Stella had stopped pursuing it long ago.
Evan was the one who kept stubbornly chasing after hers.
Yet in his world, that love seemed almost worthless.
Something he could cast aside whenever it became inconvenient.
Felix was no different.
“I’ll bring you back soon,” Evan said.
“You really think I’d want to come back to you?” Stella scoffed. “You’re delusional.”
She had no intention of ever returning to his side.
