Chapter 828
“She went to the hospital again?”
That was not good news.
Lucas already knew Leon had gone back to the Redson house and fought with his family the night before.
He also knew Monique had gone to the hospital that morning after getting hurt.
“How did Monique’s face get injured?” Lucas asked.
After everything that happened with Evan, Lucas was not eager to get involved in anyone else’s relationship problems.
The group of them had become exhausting when it came to love.
Their fights were explosive.
When Stella and Evan had been tearing each other apart, Lucas had nearly gotten dragged into it too.
He still had lingering trauma from that.
Especially now that Evan and Stella were not even divorced, and Lucas was still helping track down where Evan had gone.
“Jennifer did it,” Leon said. “With a fruit knife.”
Thinking about the scene that morning made Leon restless again.
He lit a cigarette and took a few drags.
He was not a heavy smoker.
Normally, he barely smoked at all.
But by this point in the day, he had already gone through half a pack.
When Leon said Jennifer had injured Monique with a fruit knife, Lucas felt something about the situation seemed strangely familiar.
But before he could think it through, Leon said, “You know what she’s like. She’s careless, straightforward. Basically...”
“That’s true.”
Lucas could not argue with that.
He and Monique had grown up together too.
She had always been more like one of the boys.
She was not the kind of person who schemed.
Though she had spent the last few years overseas.
Lucas had not seen her in a long time.
Whenever they did meet, they still treated each other like old buddies.
She had always seemed completely uncomplicated.
But when Leon said Jennifer had hurt Monique with a fruit knife, Lucas’s first instinct had been to compare Monique to someone like Summer.
Thinking about it more carefully, though...
If she said it was an accident, then it was probably the truth.
Leon glanced at him, his gaze deepening.
“She isn’t someone who covers for people. So you think she really did accidentally run into Jennifer’s knife?”
“I think she was probably telling the truth.”
Leon said nothing.
An accident.
“Then why was Jennifer holding a knife?”
If she had picked up a knife and pointed it at Monique, the two of them must have had a conflict.
And Jennifer must have wanted to hurt her, right?
Lucas went quiet.
He did not know what to say.
“How would I know? I wasn’t there. You were. Didn’t you see what happened?”
Leon fell silent again.
He had not.
He had not understood why Jennifer had picked up the knife either.
