If Stella had hired a large enough force…
“Stella, can you calm down for a moment?” Felix asked, deliberately softening his voice.
But the gentler he became, the more determined she was to see Litt dead.
Stella gave a mocking laugh.
“So now you remember how to speak to me properly? You and Aaron were awfully commanding before.”
Even something as important as her own wedding had simply been announced to her.
She had been the bride, yet they had treated it as though they were assigning her another task.
They had never cared what the marriage meant to her or whether she agreed to it.
Whenever they should have spoken to her properly, they had refused.
Now they finally wanted to reason with her.
Unfortunately, it was far too late.
“Call off the people you hired first, all right?” Felix said after taking a deep breath.
Stella could hear just how determined he was to protect Litt.
First Summer.
Now Litt.
Wonderful.
Why had no one ever shown that same determination when it came to protecting her?
She had been forced to hire people with her own money.
That was right.
The only reason those people were fighting so fiercely for her tonight was because she had paid them.
Stella no longer bothered arguing with Felix.
She ended the call.
…
In Seaborne, Felix listened to the disconnected line and rubbed his aching brow.
That woman really was…
“Sir, are we going to Mance Island?” Jack asked.
“What’s happening there now?”
“We’ve already lost a lot of men,” Jack replied grimly.
That told Felix everything he needed to know.
Stella had hired a substantial force.
She truly could be ruthless.
What Felix had not expected was that she would place herself in danger too.
