Honestly, I don’t know how I made it through the next two quarters, other than I did my best to ignore Jessica and her endless attempts to get under my skin, by focusing on the football game at hand. This was my first time actually seeing Chase playing, other than him just running the drills at practice, and by the looks of things, he was a pretty damn good player. But then, on the other hand, he was a werewolf, which probably gave him a hell of a lot more advantages over the players I am used to seeing.

It wasn’t until I heard the buzzer, giving the two-minute warning in the second quarter, did I realize that I had survived. Turning to look over my shoulder, Mazie nodded her head to me, while her and Lexi were getting to their feet, before making their way down the bleachers, while I turned and told the coach I needed to use the restroom. I didn’t even bother to wait for her permission, before I began to run down the sideline towards the restrooms where I was to meet up with Lexi and Mazie to put our plan into action.

But as I made my way down the track, I looked over to my right and just about froze in my step, when I could have sworn I saw glowing red eyes shining back at me from beneath the bleachers. Coming to a complete halt, I stood there completely frozen in my place, as I stared straight at the small opening between the spectators, squinting my eyes, as I now swore I saw something dark move within the shadows.

My heart began to race as I just stood there, waiting for whatever it was to show itself again to me, but as I stood there like a complete idiot, the stadium lights kicked on, shining straight down on me like a spotlight, blinding the hell out of me. Moving my hand to my face to shield my eyes, I looked once again, but this time, I could clearly see movement coming from beneath the bleachers.

My eyes instantly scanned the area for Lexi and Mazie, but the two of them clearly had already made it off the field and to our designated meeting spot. Turning, I noticed that Chase was deep into a play, and honestly, at this point in time, I wasn’t quite sure if he would even come to my aide if I asked him to, as he seemed to be resorting tonight to his old damn

ways.

“Shit.” I whispered under my breath, as I turned back around, seeing all the innocent spectators sitting in the bleachers, right above whatever the hell was lurking beneath them, while I realized that I was on my own with this one.

Jogging to the opening in the fence, I made my way cautiously towards the set of bleachers, bumping into a few spectators along the way, as I tried my best to keep my eyes glued to the movement, not wanting whoever it was to get away. But just before I could reach my

destination, I heard a familiar voice call out my name, making me turn for a second to see Mrs. Ryder sitting in the bleachers right next to me, waving her hands like she was signaling me to come to her.

My eyes moved between her and the next set of bleachers, thinking that I needed to keep moving, but there was no way of avoiding her since we had clearly made eye contact. Taking one last look at the next set of bleachers, I turned back to Mrs. Ryder, before making my way to where she was now standing.

“Raven, thank the Moon Goddess that you are alive and well.” She said as she grabbed ahold of me, pulling me into a tight embrace, as I could have sworn, I felt a warm tear slip from the corner of her eyes onto my cheek, before she then whispered in my ear, “We all had thought the worst, and honestly, it felt like losing your mother all over again.”

“I’m so sorry to worry you like that.” Is all I said back to her, because right now I don’t have the time to fully explain to her what happened.
