Chapter 292 I’m Guilty
Chapter 292 I’m Guilty
Third–person POV:
Laila had no interest in the past.

After she returned home from the Thunder Pack, the first thing she noticed was that the neighbors next door had already moved
out.
But no one had moved in yet.
“I wonder who it’ll be. If it’s a handsome guy, that’d be perfect,” Viola said with a bright smile. “I’d be in a good mood every day just seeing him.”
“Yeah, sure,” Laila said with a faint smile.
Pearl came out to greet them, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret. “Ms. Conlay, I bet it’s Prince Vance.”
Laila froze, then glanced at Viola.
Pearl grinned. “A few days ago, I saw Luke talking to the neighbors. Not long after, they moved out. So it has to be Prince Vance. He probably wants to live closer to you.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Laila shot back. “What kind of Alpha would leave their own pack to live in someone else’s?”
Even so, a small flicker of anticipation stirred in her heart.
Could it be Samuel?
As soon as they entered the wolf den, Raymond ran over. His steps were much steadier now.
Laila patted his head, then shifted into her wolf form and carried him on her back for a while before heading to the study.
She couldn’t afford to fall behind on her Ancient Friselian lessons or her translation work.
She was still very concerned about the contents of those three small booklets.
When she worked, no one disturbed her.
It wasn’t until night fell that she finally looked up,
She hadn’t managed to translate much, but even those few lines only left Laila more confused.
The contents seemed to be part of a myth.
But what kind of story would need to be recorded in Ancient Friselian?
At least it didn’t seem like anything dangerous.
Laila let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The next few days passed quietly. Laila stayed in her room, studying Ancient Friselian, while Pearl stopped by every so often to fuss at her–reminding her to be careful and not strain her eyes.

She would often bring up the empty house next door, wondering why it had been vacant for so many days without anyone moving
Sometimes, she would even grumble about Samuel, saying he had no idea how to treat a woman–how could he go so many days without coming to the Silvermoon Pack?
Laila would think about it from time to time, but she didn’t pay it much mind.
She wasn’t the clingy type. Both she and Samuel had their own responsibilities.
Besides, Samuel already had someone he loved. He only wanted to make her his mate to cover up the curse.
So, it wasn’t surprising that he rarely came by.
Nita couldn’t help but grumble in her mind, “This guy has zero emotional intelligence.”
Meanwhile, Holt was summoned to the royal palace by Vaughn.
Samuel was already there.
Holt froze in surprise, but before he could speak, Vaughn snapped, “Holt, who do you think you are? How dare you have a civilian’s hand cut off? Do the kingdom’s laws mean nothing to you?”
Holt looked completely confused. “Your Majesty, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Vaughn stared at his pale face and dark, sunken eyes. He thought of how many times he had trusted him, how he had tried to support and promote him–yet Holt was like a lump of clay that refused to take shape, no matter how hard he tried.
The anger in his chest flared.
“You don’t know? Then why did someone file a complaint against you with the Justice Department?
“What about that incident with Mrs. O’Donnell? I told you to take Maris and apologize. Alpha Connor wouldn’t let you in, and you just turned around and left? Is that how you apologize? Instead of trying to earn forgiveness, you took your anger out on civilians? You deserved to be doused in filth–I ought to do it myself.”
Vaughn was so furious that he could barely keep his temper in check. Holt had failed him–again and again.
If not for the kingdom’s lack of capable people and the fact that he had once believed in Holt and wanted to give him a chance, he wouldn’t have tolerated this.
No one would have expected Holt to be this far gone.
And now he was even taking his anger out on civilians.
A chilling aura radiated from Vaughn, and Holt hardly dared to breathe.
He knew Vaughn wouldn’t make false accusations. If he said it, then someone must have reported him to the Justice Department.
So, that’s why Samuel was here.
“It had to be Maris. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do,” Vick roared in his head.
Holt didn’t have the energy to respond. One look at Vaughn’s fury told him his position was finished. Emotions churned inside him

His eyes brimmed with tears as he choked out, “Your Majesty, I am guilty. I accept any punishment. I will apologize to Mrs. O’Donnell again and do everything I can to earn her forgiveness.”
Vaughn looked at him and thought of the day he had returned victorious from the Lovanfall Battlefield–so full of pride and spirit. Now he looked like a stray dog with nowhere to go.
Vaughn said coldly, “Holt, starting now, you are suspended from duty. If you make another mistake, you will no longer remain be the alpha of the Ironclaw Pack. This is your last chance.”
As the Alpha King, Vaughn had the power to strip an alpha of his title.
The words hit Holt like a bolt of lightning, leaving his mind blank. His face drained of color.
“I understand, Your Majesty…”
Worse still, Samuel was standing right there.
He didn’t want to see Samuel–or rather, he didn’t want Samuel to see him in this state.
