My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 252

Chapter 252: Chapter 252: Turning Hostile Faster Than Flipping a Book

Damien Vaughn clung to Cecelia Archer’s back, his arms around her waist, as they leisurely rode the motorcycle to the supermarket.

It was a large supermarket with a pleasant, upscale atmosphere.

He didn’t know if it was because he was with Cecelia Archer, or because everything was so neatly and beautifully arranged, but for the first time in his life, Damien Vaughn discovered that grocery shopping could actually be enjoyable.

Cecelia Archer was exhausted and in no mood to wander. She headed straight for the produce section and asked him what he wanted to eat.

In reality, the vegetables available were more or less the same all over the country. Sudland didn’t have many local specialties, and after looking for a while, they still couldn’t make up their minds.

Finally, Damien Vaughn’s gaze drifted to the seafood section.

"Let’s have seafood. Both you and Zeke Walton worked hard today, so let’s get some to treat yourselves."

"But you just had an anti-inflammatory shot. Are you even allowed to eat seafood? Besides, I don’t know how to cook it."

"I can’t eat it, but you two can. You might not know how to cook it, but the hotel chef does. I told you to buy it, so just buy it."

Cecelia Archer really couldn’t figure him out.

He was the one who wanted to eat this, and he was the one who had insisted she cook for him, but now he was saying things like this.

’Whatever. Let His Lordship have whatever makes him happy.’

As expected of a coastal city, the seafood was large and the prices were low.

Cecelia Archer picked out a few crabs, then reached her hand into the lobster tank.

"How about we each get a lobster, then? I’ve never had one this big before."

’She sounded so pitiful.’

’Back when she had everything at the Vaughn estate, the maids would ask her every day what she wanted to eat, and she never said anything like this.’

Damien Vaughn shot her an exasperated but amused glance.

"Then pick out a few more. You can eat your fill today."

Cecelia Archer realized he was in a good mood today. Though he was still being a pain, he was also being genuinely generous.

Smiling, she went to scoop up a lobster. But the creature was lively and hard to catch. Lacking experience, Cecelia Archer tried and failed a few times, only to have her finger caught in its pincer.

"AH! Damien Vaughn!"

Damien Vaughn had been looking at the sea cucumbers nearby. His attention lapsed for just a second, but he heard her scream. He glanced down and saw her slender finger clamped tightly in the massive lobster pincer.

He was utterly exasperated with Cecelia Archer.

"How can you be so clumsy? Don’t you know there are tongs for that?"

"Just stop talking and help me get it off! It hurts!"

Damien Vaughn rushed to pry open the lobster’s pincer.

The creature was surprisingly strong. Even though Damien could lift a twenty-kilogram weight with one hand, it still took him several tries to pry the pincer off.

The pincer broke off, but Cecelia Archer’s finger had been pierced. Blood mixed with tank water dripped steadily to the floor.

In an instant, Damien Vaughn lost all appetite for dinner.

"Is it that bad? I’m taking you to the hospital."

Although her finger was throbbing painfully, Cecelia Archer didn’t think it was serious enough for a hospital visit.

"Come on, it’s just a tiny cut. It’ll probably be healed by the time we get to the hospital. It’s not worth the embarrassment."

"Nonsense. That water’s not clean, and you have an open wound. It’ll get infected if it’s not treated properly. Stop arguing and come with me."

Cecelia Archer tried to protest, but he cut her off, tucking her under his arm and lifting her clean off the ground.

’Wasn’t he on the verge of fainting just a minute ago? How did he suddenly turn into Hercules?’

Cecelia Archer decided he was completely bipolar.

After a mad dash, the two of them were back at the hospital.

It was the same ER doctor from before. Seeing that the woman was the patient this time, he shot the pair a speechless glance.

"ID card. Any prior medical conditions?"

Cecelia Archer was so embarrassed she wished the ground would swallow her whole. ’In this doctor’s eyes,’ she thought, ’we must look like a couple of idiots.’

"No."

Then Damien Vaughn remembered.

A while ago, at the hospital, he had seen the backs of two people who looked uncannily like Cecelia Archer and Shane Grant.

He had asked Brandon Jacobs to look into it, but nothing came of it. Could that have been the day?

’Shane Grant had been with her when she had the abortion!’

He didn’t dare let his thoughts go any further. A fire seemed ready to erupt from his eyes.

"I’ll ask you one more time! When did it happen? Whose baby was it? Answer me!"

His grip on her wrist was painfully tight. Cecelia Archer tried to pull away, but she couldn’t break free. Her whole body was trembling.

"Why is it so important for you to know when it happened and whose it was? It’s in the past. It’s over. What are you going to do? What *can* you do?"

He was right. Damien Vaughn suddenly sobered. ’What am I even doing?’

They hadn’t seen each other for two whole months.

In those two months, Cecelia Archer had hidden from him, changed her identity, and lived day and night with Shane Grant. Even when she reappeared, it had been for Shane’s sake.

Even now, the only way he could control her was by holding the Grant Group’s interests over her head.

’She has protected Shane Grant from top to bottom, time and time again. It couldn’t be more obvious. So what am I doing?’

’I know she doesn’t like me, yet I keep trying to get close to her. Why am I so pathetic, so stupid?’

’Just a few days ago, I was being rational. I knew we had no future. How did I let myself end up like this again?’

A wave of shame and humiliation washed over Damien Vaughn.

Never in his life had he acted so debased, so unprincipled. But when it came to Cecelia Archer, he lost control time and time again.

As he calmed down, it was as if his self-respect suddenly returned. He hated the man he was in this moment. Utterly exhausted, he released his grip on Cecelia Archer.

"It was Shane Grant’s. I get it now. I just didn’t realize you’d move so fast, getting pregnant with his child right after you moved out of the Vaughn estate."

"If you hadn’t been injured in there—all those shots, all that medicine—you two would have kept the baby, wouldn’t you?"

"My apologies. It seems that because of my mother, you lost your first child."
