’His daughter said she didn’t want him to work so hard and wanted to be with him forever?’
Damien Vaughn felt like he had never heard such heartwarming words before. His eyes shamelessly reddened again.
When Candy saw her dad was about to cry, she started wailing even harder.
The two of them clung to each other, foreheads touching, as if they were being torn apart forever.
"SOB... I really, really like Daddy. I don’t want Daddy to work so hard. Daddy’s gotten so thin, it makes Candy so sad. SOB... It’s all Candy’s fault. Candy won’t ask for random toys anymore..."
As the two of them cried, Cecelia Archer’s own tears started to fall uncontrollably.
’Candy really loves him so much. She longs for a father. Was choosing to divorce him really the right thing to do?’
After Damien Vaughn made endless promises to his daughter that he wouldn’t be away for so long again, Candy finally stopped crying and asked him, her nose red.
"Where are we going to eat?"
"We’ll eat wherever Candy wants to eat."
"I want to go to the mall. There’s a children’s play area inside. When Mommy used to take me to the mall, all the other kids had their daddies playing with them, but I didn’t. Today, I want Daddy to go in with me too."
Damien Vaughn agreed in a heartbeat, and the three of them went to a mid-to-high-end shopping mall.
Lots of children were bouncing around in the play area. Hearing their happy laughter, Candy hurriedly shoveled down a few bites of her food, eager to run off.
Damien Vaughn had no choice but to put down his chopsticks and go with her.
Cecelia Archer sat alone in the restaurant, watching them through the glass. She saw Damien Vaughn push Candy on the swing, go down the slide with her, play in the ball pit, and jump on the trampoline together. Candy’s smile was so joyous, and her eyes were filled with such trust and reliance as she looked at him. Suddenly, Cecelia felt there was no need for her to be so stubborn.
Ever since she had her daughter, her greatest wish was for Candy to be happy.
’Now she’s finally happy, so what am I making a fuss for?’
’Besides, it’s not like I like anyone else, and I have no plans to remarry. There’s really no need to go through with this divorce.’
"Hello, Ryan."
Ryan was quite surprised to get her call. "Is something the matter, Miss Archer?"
"You don’t need to draft the divorce papers anymore. You can get some proper sleep now."
’Miss Archer really understands me!’ Ryan finally let out a long sigh of relief.
After more than two hours of wild fun, Candy was drenched in sweat, her clothes soaked through. The three of them started for home.
Candy had Cecelia Archer drive while she and Damien Vaughn sat in the back.
They say a daughter is her father’s sweetheart from a past life. It seemed there was some truth to that.
With her daddy around, her mommy was old news.
Candy sat on his lap, her arms wrapped around his neck and her head resting on his shoulder, and she quickly drifted off to sleep.
After they got out of the car, he carried the child back to her room. Damien Vaughn dampened a warm towel and gently wiped her face, hands, and feet. When he turned around, he saw Cecelia Archer watching him intently. He looked away, a little guiltily.
"It’s getting late, and you’re tired. You should get some rest. I’ll sleep in Grandpa’s room."
Cecelia Archer grabbed his hand.
"Come here for a moment. Let’s talk."
’Cecelia is still willing to hold my hand?’
Damien Vaughn felt a surge of excitement, followed by a wave of sorrow.
’I’ve been so tired lately. My head hurts, and there’s this tightness in my chest. I wish Cecelia would just hug me.’
’But alas, that’s just a pipe dream now.’
The two returned to their bedroom. Cecelia, acting like the master of the house, sat down on the sofa first and then gestured for him to sit as well.
To get a better look at her expression, Damien Vaughn sat on the coffee table opposite her.
Cecelia Archer met his gaze. "If you’re sure you won’t remarry, then I think we shouldn’t get a divorce for the time being."
"What?"
"Candy is too young, and she relies on you too much... You were right. We can’t let her become another Elsa. Let’s wait until she’s grown up and can understand, then we can talk about it again."
