Sera
"Does that look normal to you? I asked, but I was too stunned to hear her answer. My gaze was fixed on the creature. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Mina stared, her eyes wide and uncertain, slowly shaking her head. "This isn't real," she muttered to herself, as if saying it out loud could somehow make it true.
She took another step toward the cage, her hand outstretched, as if to prove to herself that this was harmless. But the movement was too sudden, and I saw her too late. I opened my mouth to shout, but the words died on my tongue as the creature lunged forward.
Jaws snapped wildly at the bars, the sound echoing through the cavern. Mina's hand was there a moment ago, and I felt my blood run cold. A single sharp yelp escaped my throat as Mina stumbled backward, away from the cage. I flinched back as well, my heart pounding wildly in my chest.
Both of us now stood several feet from the cage, our faces pale. I could feel my breath coming in short gasps, and Mina's eyes were wide and fearful.
"I'm sorry," she breathed, still staring at the cage. "I thought..." She shook her head, unable to finish the sentence.
I knew better than to take my eyes off the creature. It had returned to the back of the cage, curled up and watching us. I could see its ribs moving rapidly with each breath.
"What... what are we going to do?" Mina asked, her voice trembling slightly.
I swallowed hard, trying to process what had just happened. The woman before us was a rogue. And rogues were known to attack and consume wolves. We were on their main menu.
A rogue was dangerous. Whether in the body of an animal or person. An animal would always remain an animal no matter what skin it was putting on.
What about Yvara? She was a rogue like this one… No one knew; all these while I have been talking and relating with a rogue…
Yvara had trained me… She spoke well. Although her character was usually conservative and brutal, taking orders to extreme lengths like she had done with Irina and Torin. Was that her rogue trait to be destructive showing?
If so, could she be really trusted?
"We have to tell Fenris," Mina said firmly, as if convincing herself. "He'll certainly know what to do."
But Fenris was gone, riding the Eastern Ridge with Yvara, tracking the Lycans. He had been the one to keep this problem under my care. Even if I wanted to reach him, there was no way I could possibly do that.
I knew I had to make a decision, but my mind was blank. I could feel Mina watching me, waiting for me to say something. But all I could do was stand there, frozen, and stare at the creature.
“How exactly do we want to tell him?”
