Chapter 235
Raphael
“You want me to walk you to your door or what?” I rasped, still sprawled out across the sheets.
My body felt like it had been through a meat grinder in the best way possible. I watched her struggle with the ruins of that black silk dress, the fabric was torn, a total loss. After the third time she tried to make it work and failed, she gave up and reached for my black t-shirt.
“What are you, my boyfriend now?” she shot back. She yanked her long hair out from the collar of the shirt, the fabric hanging halfway down her thighs.
She looked absolutely wrecked. Her hair was a bird’s nest, her lips were swollen and bruised, and she looked like she’d just crawled out of a beautiful, violent war. I knew I wasn’t looking like my usual polished self, either, my skin was covered in her nail marks and shined with sweat.
I propped myself up on my elbows, the muscles in my arms twitching. My eyes drifted down, scanning the pale skin of her inner thighs. The marks there were red and angry, blooming against her skin.
They weren’t scars like she told me that they were, they were wounds, fresh, almost as if someone had been torturing for past few days, targeting the same area again and again.
“Speaking of boyfriends,” I started, “What kind of blind, pathetic piece of shit fumbled a girl like you? I mean… considering…”
I let my fingers graze the dark, blooming bruise on her inner thigh. My touch was light, almost a ghost of a feeling.
She flinched at my touch, a small frown deepening on her face as she took a sharp step back, “No. I mean, I was… for a long time. But not anymore. But I think a part of me will always love him. He was my first, so…. it took me years to get over him. Maybe that’s why I don’t do the whole relationship thing. I don’t do romance. You only get one shot at love, right?”
A muscle jumped in my jaw. I stared at her, my blood feeling like ice, “I wouldn’t know. I’ve never loved anyone in my life.”
Her frown grew deeper, her eyes searching mine like she was looking for a lie, “You haven’t? Never?”
