Chapter 456
The instructor placed a hand over his chest, “Oh. My deepest apologies.”
The apology lasted approximately two seconds then his eyes drifted away from Vincenzo and landed directly on Raphael.
I saw the exact moment Raphael realized what was happening.
The instructor tilted his head, “Oh.”
A smile tugged at my mouth immediately because Raphael looked uncomfortable. Actually uncomfortable.
It was like spotting a unicorn in the wild.
“And who is this?” the instructor asked.
Claire’s eyes lit up. I immediately knew this was about to become a disaster, “That’s Raphael.”
The instructor continued staring.
Claire smiled sweetly, “He’s single.”
I bit the inside of my cheek.
The instructor’s entire face brightened, “Oh.”
Raphael looked ready to throw himself off the terrace.
The instructor folded his arms, studying him, “Hmm. You have beautiful eyes.’
I almost fell over because Raphael looked like his brain had completely stopped functioning.
A laugh escaped before I could stop it.
Because seeing Raphael Capone completely out of his element was, apparently, one of the funniest things I had ever witnessed.
It was glorious.
Absolutely glorious.
I pressed a hand against my mouth, trying to contain myself. It didn’t work.
The instructor was still saying something to Raphael, but I wasn’t listening anymore because
Raphael’s eyes narrowed on me.
He wasn’t looking at Vincenzo.
Or Claire.
Or anyone else.
He was looking at me.
Just me.
The laughter caught in my throat. His face had changed, the irritation was gone, the annoyance was gone. Even that cold expression he wore most of the time had disappeared.
“Because we need to talk.”
My heart sank straight into my shoes. Around us, Claire and Maddie were still laughing at something the instructor had said. Nobody noticed the death sentence that had just been handed to me.
“Now?” I asked weakly.
“Now.”
I looked toward Claire for help, but she was too busy talking to the instructor then I slowly turned toward Raphael.
Vincenzo was already walking back toward the house.
Raphael looked at me and I looked at him. For a second neither of us said anything then his mouth twitched, just enough to be called a smile. Enough to make me want to throw something at him.
“Oh, that’s nice,” I muttered.
His eyebrows lifted, “What’s nice?”
“The fact that you’re enjoying this.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
I stared at him. He stared back. The mutual glared lasted exactly three seconds. Then we both looked away at the same time because Vincenzo had stopped walking and was now looking over his shoulder.
I immediately hurried after Vincenzo. A second later, Raphael fell into step beside me. We entered the house and followed Vincenzo through the long hallway.
The distant laughter from outside faded behind us. The closer we got to the study, the more nervous I became because nobody got sunmoned into Vincenzo’s study for fun.
