Chapter 515
Emma looked away first. Morgan stared at the television. Tasha suddenly became very interested in her drink.
A cold feeling settled into my stomach, “Mama D?”
She sighed heavily, “Kid…”
I took another step, “What is going on?”
One of the men stood, “The fuck this bitch is doing back here?”
“Sit down, I’ll handle her,” Mama D snapped.
The man sat immediately. I looked around again. The atmosphere felt strange, uncomfortable like everyone had already had this conversation except me.
Emma finally spoke, “You need to leave.”
I blinked, “What?”
“You heard me.”
For a second I genuinely thought she was joking then I saw her face and realized that she wasn’t.
The hurt landed harder than I expected, “What did I do?”
I looked toward Brianna, Morgan, Jasmine but none of them would look at me.
My throat tightened. I walked directly to Mama D, “I came because nobody was answering.”
Mama D rubbed both hands across her face, “Gianna, I think it would be better if you just leave.”
I blinked, “Why?” And then looked at Cole’s men, especially glared at the one who had Brianna on his lap, “And what are they doing here?”
Mama D sighed, “What do you need? Why are you here?”
I swallowed, she had never talked to me like this before, “I wanted to invite you to my showcase in New York.”
The room became even more uncomfortable somehow.
Mama D closed her eyes, “Oh, sweetheart.”
I frowned, “What?”
She looked at me with a sadness that felt almost cruel, “They see a life they were never given.”
I pulled my hand back slowly, “I never wanted to make them feel like that.”
“I know,” she looked down, “but sometimes people don’t have to mean to hurt you for it to happen. Please, leave and don’t come back here. We have no room for you anymore. Please, sweetheart,” Mama D whispered. “Just go.”
My throat tightened, “No.”
Mama D closed her eyes.
I shook my head, “I’m not leaving until somebody explains what’s actually happening.”
Then suddenly a hand grabbed my waist from behind. I froze, before I could react, something wet pressed against my cheek. My stomach turned. I shoved backward immediately with all my strength.
“What the hell!”
I spun around so fast my hoodie twisted around me. Cole Mercer grinned, making my skin crawl. His eyes dragged slowly over me and I immediately wanted to scrub my skin raw.
“Damn,” he said, shaking his head. “You slipped right through my fingers, G. You would’ve been fun.”
