Chapter 145 The Spear Doesn’t Lie

Dominic’s eyes nearly bulged out of his skull. Searing pain tore through his entire body, and he let out a ragged scream as the spear launched him backward. The force behind that single strike was beyond anything he’d imagined.
He slammed into the ground. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. His eyes went red with fury.
“Son of a bitch!”
He forced himself up through the pain. The Divine Sigil on his right arm flared silver.
Steven’s gaze sharpened.
Sigil pattern power. Here it comes.
“Stay down!” Dominic roared. His fist blazed with silver light as a terrifying new layer of force wrapped around it. A punch like that would shatter any spear it touched.
Steven snorted inwardly. Deep behind his pupils, a flicker of gold sparked to life.
Dominic swung. For a split second, his fist seemed to transform into a charging metal tiger, all momentum and brutal power.
But Steven was done wasting time. A thread of energy from his beast–type Divine Sigil flowed down the shaft and gathered at the spear’s tip.
Wrath of the Sundering Dragon.
He thrust in one explosive motion. In Dominic’s mind, there was no way this attack could break through. He’d tank the spear and land his fist. One punch would end the fight.
Steven smiled coldly. The spear tip became the sharpest thing in the world. Dominic could harden his body all he wanted. Was he harder than a beast?
Steven had skewered a level 2 like it was nothing.
Dominic’s face twisted with savage triumph. Almost there.
Then the sound came. A wet, quiet puncture.
The spear went through him.

His fist hung frozen three feet from Steven’s face. Any closer and the agony in his chest would tear him apart. He stared at Steven’s cold smile and felt something inside him start to tremble.
His defense had failed. His strength was draining. He looked down in disbelief at his right shoulder. Steven held the spear one–handed, its black shaft buried clean through him and out the other side. Blood ran freely down the weapon.
“No!” he screamed.

How was this possible? He’d poured everything into that spot, every ounce of sigil–reinforced defense he had. He could take a direct hit from a level 2 beast without flinching, and yet a First Sigil Awakened had punched clean through all of it with a single thrust.
The only explanation was that Steven was cheating. Some kind of freak. Unless the spear itself was A–rank or S–rank, but that was impossible.
He didn’t understand.
The pain drove Dominic over the edge. “I’ll kill you!” His eyes were solid red, veins crawling across the whites, sweat pouring from his scalp in waves.
He tried to counterattack. Steven’s voice cut through him like ice.
Steven ignored every single one of them.

“I’ll ask one more time. Who sent you?”
Dominic’s eyes burned red. “Kill me if you’ve got the guts.”
Steven scoffed. “Throw away my future over trash like you?”
“Fine. Let’s try a different question.”
“Spencer Read sent you after me. And I’m guessing a beating wasn’t all he had in mind.”
Dominic’s pupils contracted involuntarily.
Steven knew!
Steven caught it and smiled. Just as he’d thought. The list of people who wanted him gone right now was pretty short, and three names sat at the top.
