Chapter 292 A Pair of Failures
The bedroom door suddenly opened.
The moment Steven looked up and saw Bianca stepping inside, timid as a startled rabbit, he nearly forgot how to breathe.
For one dangerous second, his imagination sprinted far ahead of reality.
Wrapped in a white bath towel, Bianca looked as though she’d stepped from a dream. The fabric covered what it needed to cover while leaving her bare shoulders and elegant collarbones exposed.
Steven had frozen mid–motion. His blood had already shifted into a lower gear, and his heart was hammering in his chest like something trying to get out.
Damp strands of hair clung to her skin, and a delicate flush colored her cheeks.
She could barely look at him.
But she had done the thinking already.
The night before he left the city, she had barely spent any time with him at all.
She was making up for it now.
“Could you dry my hair for me?” Her voice came out soft.
Steven went rigid.
He launched off the bed like he had been spring–loaded.
“Absolutely!”
Bianca settled obediently in front of the vanity while Steven hurried to find the hair dryer, Standing behind her, he caught her reflection in the mirror. The rosy color in her cheeks.
Steven swallowed hard.
Was something actually about to happen tonight?
Neither of them addressed the question.
He simply dried her hair. Soft strands slipped through his fingers, carrying the faint scent of shampoo and
warm skin.
Looking down, he caught a glimpse of something he probably shouldn’t have.
Pale and smooth like porcelain.
Her hair quickly dried.

Steven tested the waters. “Bianca. Are you-
Her face crimson, she walked to the head of the bed with exaggerated casualness, then dove under the covers faster than logic allowed.
The towel came flying out a second later.
Bianca’s eyes peeked above the blanket, shy and bright.
“Good night, Steven.”
For a brief, glorious moment, Steven thought all his dreams had just come true.
He crossed the room in record time and slid beneath the blankets beside her.
He was ready to pull her soft warmth against him when his hand found fabric. Steven paused, confused.
He threw back the blanket for a look.
She wore shorts and a loose top, carefully hidden beneath the towel she’d discarded.
The slightly lowered neckline had done the rest, allowing his imagination to fill in the blanks.
Bianca’s eyes danced with amusement.
“What’s wrong? Don’t like your surprise?
“From now on, I can sleep beside you every night.”
Steven stared at her for a second before laughter escaped him.
“Oh, so that’s how it is. My girlfriend’s getting awfully bold… She’s actually playing tricks on me.
“That deserves a punishment!”
“Ah! Stop that!”
She yelped but made no attempt to flee.
Steven noticed she wasn’t wearing anything under the shirt.
He grinned. Not bad at all.
The door opened.
Abigail scrambled to cover herself.
She saw Spencer.
“Are you dumb?! Your mother never taught you to knock?”
Spencer smiled, thin and cold. “Don’t act like I haven’t seen all of you before. How did your attempt go?
“Failed, didn’t it?
“You couldn’t close the deal either. So, why are you pretending you’re any better than me?”

Abigail laughed. “What, you think you can handle it? With that tiny dick of yours?”
Spencer’s temper flared.
“Shut your mouth.”
Abigail just smiled wider. “They let you out already? I thought they were keeping you locked up for a year. Spencer’s voice went flat. “What, an SS–rank isn’t worth anything to the family anymore?”
Abigail stretched, showing her legs.
Spencer cut her off. “I didn’t come here to trade insults. The old man is tired of your lifestyle.
“He wanted me to tell you to stay away from Bianca White. Push any harder, and things will get out of hand. No one will be able to clean up the mess.”
Abigail smiled, slow and humorless. “How funny. We really are a pair of failures, aren’t we?”
