Chapter 115
I made a promise. I never go back on my word. You know that.
Then break it. For once in your life, think of yourself, for once, Hades. Stop pushing people away. Open your heart, start the process of healing. Don’t let bitterness and hate consume you. Your father is dead. Don’t be a victim of his as well. Don’t let him win. Don’t let him ruin the love you have for Raven. Because if you continue to go down this road, your life is going to be filled with nothing but misery.
“Hades, why don’t you have a drink?” Marissa’s voice interrupts my discussion with Lucifer.
My hand shakes slightly as I pick up the wine glass. I can sense Lucifer’s anger, his desperation. can feel myself beginning to question everything. To feel the emotions I had kept at bay for so long, the fears I had kept silently to myself with nobody to hear them except my wolf.
“Marissa, I,” I began.
I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t force myself into a marriage. I knew that now. There was only one woman I could think about. One woman I wanted. I didn’t care about the good of the pack or that she didn’t have a wolf. I cared about her. For the first time, I knew what it was to feel love for somebody other than yourself. I couldn’t let that go. Lucifer was right. Raven was the best thing to happen to me. The mate I constantly pretended not to be.
“Have a drink, Hades. You look like you need one. You’re as pale as a ghost,” she purred.
A drink might help me regain my composure. I slowly lift it to my lips, looking at the vibrancy of the colour, the richness of the red. I can smell a faint scent of fruitiness, signalling it’s slightly sweet. I take a sip, letting it trickle slowly down my throat. It’s nice, delicious, exactly what I need. I’m not much of a wine drinker, but this is exceptional.
“Get your hands off of me,” I rasped, pushing her aside and causing her to fall off the bed.
“I just wanted…” she began.
My body moved of its own accord, sweating profusely as I gritted my teeth and yanked her up, dragging her down the hallway and shoving her into a room, closing the door and barely making it back to my own in time to collapse, breathing heavily on the bed. I was disgusted at her actions. She must be desperate to become Luna, I thought, my body so heated it felt like it was on fire. I needed relief. I needed somebody to to serve me, but I would be damned if I used Raven that way.
