Chapter 135
Her expression fell, and she fidgeted with her hands.
“Sorry, Raven, but in this instance, I have to agree with Hades,” Jackson said with a grimace, “I for one happen to think she doesn’t deserve your mercy. To be honest, if she became rogue, she would be hunted down for her white wolf by other alphas or by rogues who are drawn to her. This might be more merciful in the long run.”
“I guess that’s the decision I have to make.”
She didn’t sound thrilled about it. Maybe because she had known Marissa her entire life. I put a comforting hard on her shoulder.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. You don’t have to kill her with your own hands,” I said gently.
It was the least I could do for her. Make sure she doesn’t have to live with the guilt. I could kill without a second thought, but Raven was different. She was softer, kinder, and more compassionate. She didn’t just kill without a reason.
“Man, you are like a different person,” Aeress exclaimed, “Raven, you’re a miracle worker. Or maybe he’s possessed,” she muttered, “and will go back to his normal self at midnight.”
Jackson laughed and Raven giggled. The atmosphere lightened. I couldn’t help but grin, unaccustomed to the feeling. It was almost as though a weight had lifted off my shoulders the instant I decided that Raven was the one for me. Like all my worries had simply vanished away and left a much happier man in his wake. I had Raven to thank for that.
“Alpha!” a shout stopped all of us, my head swivelling as a warrior came running, his expression filled with panic.
“What is it?” I snarled.
He better have a damn good reason for interrupting us.
“Marissa’s gone, sir. She’s escaped.”
He looked at me, trembling. He knew exactly what my reaction would be.
I didn’t have to spell it out for him. If Marissa made it to neutral territory, we were screwed.
“Then we can’t get to her,” Jackson supplied, already running to the front door, “I’m on it.”
“Aeress, take care of Raven,” I instructed hoarsely, “I’ll have two of my men remain behind with you.”
“But what about you?” Raven’s voice was filled with shock, “I should come too, I should…”
“It could be a trap,” I interrupted, still moving, “you need to stay safe. Protect each other,” I warned, “and don’t let each other out of sight. Do you understand me?”
I was gone before they replied, shifting as I ran through the front door, my paws thudding loudly on the ground, my body racing for the trees. Marissa had vowed revenge against Raven and I feared that if she made it out of my territory, she would come back and finish what she started. There was not a moment to lose.
The safety of my mate was my only priority and if it meant I had to burn the world to keep her safe, then I would do it without hesitation.
