Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 136

Chapter 136

Raven POV

“Damn that bitch,” Aeress sighed, flopping onto the sofa and looking moodily at me, “maybe she’ll get trapped in a bear trap or something,” she muttered.

I laughed despite my concern. It was just like Aeress to lift my mood.

“They’ll find her. I don’t know why Hades insisted I stay here. I could help. I could take her,” I said irritably, plopping myself on the opposite sofa.

He was so protective. It was nice to have somebody who cared that much, but I wasn’t exactly made of glass. Then again, I had only shifted once, so maybe it was necessary in order to conserve my strength.

“Men,” Aeress sighed, “they act like it’s the Middle Ages and women are useless. It’s like a caveman instinct or something,” she beat on her chest with both hands, “me Jackson, me Hades. Me so smart,” she drawled, causing both of us to dissolve into giggles.

Suddenly Aeress’s face changed, and she got up, putting a hand to her mouth and making gagging noises. I hurried after her as she almost ran to the nearest bathroom and threw up, gasping and groaning. I pulled back her hair, keeping her from vomiting on it.

“If you weren’t well, you should have said something,” I scolded her as she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and grimaced.

“Or is this because you’re worried Jackson might get hurt?” I asked suddenly, “because he’ll be fine, Aeress. There’s a lot of men searching for Marissa, including Hades.”

It was meant to reassure her, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. If anything, she just turned paler.

She groaned and then hastily washed her face before slowly making her way back to the lounge room, her face ashen.

“I’m not so sure it’s what I want,” she said in a rush, on the verge of tears.

I’m astounded. Aeress had always struck me as the maternal type, especially with the way she handled Hades. She would be a great mother. She was nurturing, loving, kind, and protective when the need arose.

“But why?” I whisper, “I thought you wanted children.”

What was she so afraid of?

“I do and I don’t,” she admitted, “I’m not sure it’s a good idea. Not just timing wise but because,” she paused looking stricken, “I don’t know how to be a mother, Raven!” she wailed, as I moved, putting my arms around her, “I don’t know the first thing about how a mother should behave. I don’t exactly have a role model. Luna Grace was the closest thing I had, and she’s gone. I don’t have anybody to ask for advice, and with my childhood…” her eyes filled with tears, “what if I’m just not cut out to be one? What if I do things wrong? What if I treat them badly? What if I’m the worst mother in the world?” she burst into tears.

Oh god. I’d never seen her so emotional before, and it wasn’t just because of her hormones. She was doubting herself. This was a side of Aeress I had never seen before.
