Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 168

Chapter 168

Third Person POV

“No,” she whispered as he finally finished with her, her body shaking as she sat back up, and he eyed her knowingly. “It can’t be. You’re not my…” she choked out, unable to bring herself to say the words.

It was unfathomable, and yet, her wolf continued to entertain the idea, making Marissa feel sick to her stomach.

Of all the things she’d dreamed her one true mate might be, excluding Hades, who wasn’t her fated, she’d never even entertained the idea that it would be a hunter. A human no less. It happened, but it was rare. She felt as though she was fated to have a miserable existence, trying not to cry at the world that was slowly/collapsing around her.

“Mate?” he supplied dryly, reaching over and pushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear, “you know better than I that you are.”

He was confident, even a little arrogant.

“But how?” she trembled, “you’re a hunter, not a shifter.”

“Your mother knew. You sensed me once,” he said calmly, “when we were close. You released some pheromones. I could smell your perfume a mile away. MaryAnne put two and two together and kept me from you on purpose, not wanting me to ruin her precious plans when it came to you marrying Hades. Now, it doesn’t matter, because you’ve confirmed it, princess, and if you think I’m going to let you go, you have another thing coming.”

It was a threat and a promise. She felt her breath hitch, felt panic begin to consume her.

“I could reject you,” she shouted out, desperation warring inside of her as she blurted the words out without thinking.

It was a big mistake.

He grabbed her by the throat, tightening his hands, causing her to choke. She spluttered. “You won’t,” he said ominously, “unless you want to die by my hands. In fact,” he breathed out, eyeing her very calmly as she stilled,” you’re going to bite me right now and claim me as your mate.”

Anything to prolong the inevitable.

Her wolf urged her to do it, wanting nothing more than to make the mate bond permanent. She ignored Marissa’s quiet protests.

“Hurry up,” he growled, beginning to grow impatient with her.

She bit down, closing her eyes in submission. He murmured with satisfaction as he felt the sharp prick of her teeth and then the feel of her tongue as she licked the blood and healed the wound. By sheer instinct alone, he reeled back and then attacked, biting down hard on her neck, causing her to cry out in pain as he tore into her flesh and then pulled away, roughly licking her mark and staring into her eyes with a deep sense of amusement as she looked away, unable to meet his eyes, feeling ashamed of herself.

“There’s a good little whore,” he said approvingly, letting go of her and breathing unevenly, “now you’re mine, he added gloatingly.

She was his. Marissa was bonded to another male, another mate. Not the one she’d intended. She still loved Hades but now she was forced to face the grim reality that she would never be able to get her hands on him. Darius had made certain of it. He’d become possessive, desperate to have her. Even with the bond, Marissa despised him; her wolf however, was enamoured with him, causing further complications. Right now, it feels like the mate bond was nothing but a curse.
