Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 118

“And if the council doesn’t move fast enough, I said, old distrust of official process still simmering beneath my forced calm.

“Then we escalate further,” my father said firmly. “I still carry considerable weight within this pack, Damon, health scare or not. I will use every bit of that influence to ensure Evelyn and this baby are genuinely protected, immediately, regardless of whatever bureaucratic delay the council might otherwise be inclined toward.”

I nodded, though he couldn’t see the gesture, some of my wolf’s frantic urgency finally settling slightly beneath the concrete promise of decisive action.

“I’m also sending additional warriors to your location right now,” my father continued. “I don’t want you facing tonight with just Sarah and one other guard, not given this level of escalation.”

“Thank you,” I said, genuine gratitude evident beneath my continued tension.

We ended the call, and I immediately contacted Callum as well, relaying everything, watching throught the window as, within twenty minutes, three additional warriors arrived to reinforce our security, their presence offering some measure of concrete reassurance even as underlying fear remained sharp and present.

I checked on Evelyn again, finding her still sleeping, though restless now, her brow furrowed even in unconsciousness. I settled carefully onto the edge of the bed, watching her, my wolf finally beginning to calm now that additional protection surrounded us, though the fury and fear both remained simmering just beneath the surface.

*Protect,* my wolf insisted, quieter now but still present. *Watch. Do not let your guard fall, even for a moment.*

I understood completely, settling into the chair near the window rather than actually lying down myself, unwilling to risk even the vulnerability of sleep while such an immediate, concrete threat continued looming over everyone I loved.

My phone buzzed again sometime later, and I checked it immediately, tension spiking sharp at the possibility of another threatening message.

Instead, it was my father. Council’s convening emergency session first thing in the morning. Helena’s taking this extremely seriously given the escalation. We’ll get this resolved, Damon. I promise you that.*

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But my father’s already working to escalate this with the council, emergency session first thing this morning. Additional security arrived last night as well.”

She nodded slowly, processing the fresh wave of fear this revelation clearly represented, and I moved to sit beside her, pulling her carefully into my arms.

“We’re going to figure this out,” I said, my voice steady despite the exhaustion and lingering fury still simmering beneath my calm exterior. “Whatever it takes, whatever resources we need to bring to bear, I promise you, this ends. Soon.”

She leaned into me, trembling slightly, and I held her close, my wolf finally settling into something resembling actual calm now that concrete, decisive action was genuinely underway.

Whatever Genevieve thought she could accomplish through these escalating threats, whatever twisted satisfaction she apparently derived from continuing to terrorize our family, I understood, holding Evelyn close as dawn fully broke outside our window, that this morning’s emergency council session would mark a genuine turning point-the moment we finally moved from reactive, defensive protection toward decisive, permanent resolution of the threat she represented.
