Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Damon pov

I paced the length of the living room, my phone buzzing again in my hand, another message from the same unknown number Genevieve had apparently been using.

Running won’t help. I’ll always know.

I showed it to my father without a word, watching his jaw tighten as he read it, before he turned back to his own phone, still deep in conversation with someone from pack security.

“I want every single person with access to information about Evelyn’s pregnancy interviewed,” he said into the phone, his voice carrying the same commanding authority I remembered from before his health scare, though now tempered with something more focused, more purposeful. “Healers, household staff, anyone who might have overheard yesterday’s conversation. This isn’t optional.”

My mother sat quietly on the far end of the couch, Willow settled against her shoulder, rocking gently with the same practiced, soothing rhythm I’d watched her use countless times these past several weeks. She looked exhausted, worry etched into every line of her face, though she maintained careful composure for Willow’s sake, keeping her voice soft and gentle despite the tension filling the rest of the room.

“How is she even getting this information,” I said, more to myself than anyone else, frustration building sharp beneath my continued pacing. “We told you and Mom in the privacy of our own living room. Nobody else was present. How does she already know, less than twenty-four hours later?”

“There has to be a leak somewhere,” my father said, ending his call and turning his full attention toward me.” Either someone overheard something they shouldn’t have, or she has resources we haven’t fully accounted for yet. Surveillance, possibly, or someone within the pack feeding her information directly.”

“Someone within the pack,” I repeated, something cold settling into my chest at the implication. “You think she has an actual ally, someone deliberately betraying us?”

“I think we can’t rule it out,” my father said grimly. “Fifteen years is a long time to build connections, relationships, favors owed. It’s entirely possible she’s leveraging some of that history to gather information she otherwise shouldn’t have access to.”

I dragged a hand through my hair, the accumulated exhaustion of the sleepless night combining with fresh, sharp anger at the possibility of active betrayal from within our own ranks. “Who would even know to ask? Who was actually present at the hospital, in the medical wing, anywhere near enough to potentially overhear something?”

“I’ll have Callum compile a list,” my father said, already reaching for his phone again. “Everyone with access to those areas over the past several days. We’ll cross-reference against anyone with known connections to Genevieve.

My mother spoke up quietly from the couch, still rocking Willow gently. “What about the healers who treated you, Robert? They would have had access to sensitive information, potentially overheard conversations during their rounds.”

“Possibly both,” my father said. “Given the severity of what’s now been documented, I think there’s a strong case for immediate, formal detention while a full investigation into her actual capabilities and connections is conducted. The council can’t reasonably ignore a documented pattern of escalating threats against a pregnant Luna and her family.”

Something in his careful phrasing caught my attention-*Luna*, a title I hadn’t fully processed Evelyn actually holding yet, despite everything that had happened these past several months.

My mother glanced up from Willow, catching my expression. “She is, you know. Whatever formal ceremony might still need to happen eventually, functionally, she’s already Luna in every way that actually matters.”

I nodded slowly, understanding the truth in that even as the current crisis continued demanding most of my immediate attention.

Callum arrived a while later, his expression tight with obvious tension as he settled into the remaining chair, a tablet already open in his hands.

“I’ve compiled the list,” he said without preamble. “Everyone with documented access to the medical wing over the past several days, cross-referenced against pack records for any known connection to Genevieve.”
