Chapter 147
Damon pov
It happened faster than I could fully process.
Genevieve’s hand moved, something metallic catching the pale moonlight, and I registered the glint of a blade a half-second before she lunged, her earlier calculated calm shattering entirely into raw, violent fury.
“You don’t get to lecture me about what’s good for me,” she screamed, closing the distance between us with startling speed.
I braced myself, my wolf surging forward with immediate, violent readiness, but before I could fully react, my father moved.
He shoved me hard, hard enough that I stumbled sideways, catching myself against a nearby tree, and in the space that opened between us, Genevieve’s attack landed against him instead.
“Dad!” I screamed his name, watching in horror as he staggered backward from the impact, his balance already compromised by weeks of physical recovery, his steps carrying him dangerously close toward the rocky ledge that marked the clearing’s eastern edge, the sheer drop beyond it disappearing into darkness.
Everything happened at once. Warriors burst from the surrounding tree line, responding to the sudden violence, Callum’s voice shouting orders somewhere behind me, and I lunged forward, desperate to reach my father before his stumbling, unbalanced steps carried him over the edge entirely.
“Dad, stop moving!” I shouted, my voice raw with terror. “Stay still!”
He was clutching his side, blood visible even in the dim moonlight, his face contorted with pain and shock, and his foot slipped against loose gravel at the cliff’s very edge.
I reached him just as his balance finally failed entirely, grabbing desperately for his arm, my fingers catching fabric, catching skin, hauling backward with every bit of strength I possessed as his weight threatened to pull us both over the precipice.
“I’ve got you,” I gasped, my feet scrambling for purchase against the loose ground, my wolf’s strength surging through me as I fought to drag him back from the edge. “I’ve got you, Dad, don’t let go.”
Somehow, through sheer desperate effort, I managed to haul him backward, both of us collapsing hard against solid ground several feet from the cliff’s edge, my heart pounding so violently I could barely process anything beyond the immediate, overwhelming relief that he hadn’t fallen.
“Dad.” I turned to him immediately, my hands finding the wound at his side, blood warm and slick against my fingers despite the darkness. “Stay with me. Healers are coming, just stay with me.”
His breathing was ragged, pain evident in every line of his face, but his eyes found mine, some flicker of awareness still present despite the obvious shock overtaking his system. “Damon.”
“Don’t talk,” I said, pressing my hand harder against the wound, trying desperately to slow whatever bleeding I could feel beneath my fingers. “Just stay awake, stay with me.”
Chaos continued around us-shouting, the sounds of struggle as warriors moved to subdue Genevieve, Callum’s voice calling urgently for the medical team-but my entire focus remained fixed on my father, on the wound at his side, on the increasingly shallow, labored quality of his breathing.
“His heart,” I shouted, desperation sharpening my voice as I registered the way his breathing had shifted, the pale, grayish quality overtaking his complexion despite the wound itself not appearing immediately fatal. ”

Something’s wrong with his heart, get the medical team here now!”
Footsteps pounded closer, and within moments, medical personnel surrounded us, their trained hands moving quickly, professionally, despite the chaos still unfolding at the clearing’s edges.
