Theo only teased Lily because she was so pretty.

"If you forgive me, I'll protect you in kindergarten from now on," Theo promised. "I swear no one will bully you."

He was terrified that Lily's mother would transfer her to another school because of this.

Phoebe was indeed considering it, but changing kindergartens might just result in the same problems.

She asked her daughter softly, "Lily, do you want to transfer, or do you want to stay?"

Lily thought for a moment and nodded. "The teachers and other kids are very nice."

Phoebe had her own selfish reasons as well.

After this incident, Jaxson's guilt would likely lead him to subtly pressure the school. With that protection in place, she wouldn't have to worry about another little tyrant like Theo bothering her daughter.

The fact that Theo could apologize meant he wasn't completely a lost cause.

At an intersection near their home, Phoebe asked Jaxson to pull over.

She took Lily and left without saying much else to Jaxson.

She wasn't in the mood.

Just by looking at her back, Jaxson could tell that Phoebe was angry.

Although she had changed a lot over the past few years—wrapping herself in a defensive armor—her temper and little quirks remained the same.

When she was mad, she gave people the silent treatment.

The only difference was that in the past, she couldn't bear to be angry with him for long. She would suppress her temper, process it herself, and then come back to him.

He glanced at the neighborhood.

It was a rundown, old resettlement housing area. The rent was cheap, but the commute to the company took at least an hour.

This was where Phoebe lived now?

It seemed her husband really was completely useless.

Jaxson pushed down the strange feeling in his chest, turned the steering wheel, and asked, "Do you bully Lily often?"

Theo pouted.
