Back in college, Seraphina had practically lived at Amherst University just to track Jaxson down.

She always used her brother Sebastian as an excuse.

And every single time, she saw that same girl glued to Jaxson's side—tall, with a breathtaking figure, dressed in flashy, eye-catching outfits. She was like the blazing sun, radiant and impossibly vibrant.

Anyone could tell she was a spoiled, pampered princess.

Through Sebastian, Seraphina found out her name was Phoebe Vance, Jaxson's girlfriend from the fine arts department.

Nobody could fathom how a man as aloof, untouchable, and ethereal as Jaxson could ever end up with such a tacky, entitled heiress.

Sebastian had claimed it was because Jaxson was broke, and Phoebe must have thrown enough money at him to lock him down. Seraphina had believed it.

It wasn't until a later business dealing that she discovered Jaxson was actually the eldest son of the Hayes family, the future heir to their entire empire.

From that moment on, Seraphina was utterly convinced that Jaxson and Phoebe's relationship was just a casual fling on his end.

She had eventually heard him say exactly that from his own mouth, yet for some reason, she hadn't felt happy about it.

Jaxson raised his head, his gaze freezing over.

Seraphina visibly shuddered.

Jaxson dropped his silverware onto the table with a sharp clatter and stood up. "I'm going upstairs. Next time you want to give her flowers, leave me out of your little performances."

Eleanor gasped, her face flushing with embarrassment. "What is that supposed to mean? I give Seraphina a bouquet and you throw a tantrum?"

But Jaxson was already halfway up the stairs.

Seraphina stared at his retreating back, a poisonous jealousy simmering in her eyes.

Eleanor grabbed Seraphina's hand, soothing her with a few gentle pats before asking, "Seraphina, who is this Phoebe you just mentioned?"

She had never heard the name before in her life.

Seraphina realized immediately that she had overstepped. She had finally gotten a chance to see Jaxson, and she had driven him away in seconds.

"It's nothing, just an old classmate. By the way, Mrs. Hayes, I forgot to ask Jaxson if he would approve my internship at The Hayes Group. You don't think he'd say no, do you?"

"Oh, that's a trivial matter. Don't worry, I'll go talk to him later."

"Thank you, Mrs. Hayes."
