Quinn typed away on her laptop, burying herself in work.
She had assumed he wasn't at Regency Bay, which was why she chose to sit in the living room—it was brighter and the air felt fresher.
But seeing him here sent her mood plummeting. Suddenly, all she wanted was to retreat to her room.
Even if her bedroom wasn't as well-lit, it was infinitely better than staring at his insufferable face.
"Gail, I think I'll head back to my room now. Could you hand me my crutch? Thank you!"
Gail hurried over. "Mrs. York, are you ready to rest?"
"Yes."
Miles stepped into the living room and grabbed the crutch before Gail could reach it. He waved his hand dismissively at her and Jack. "You're all dismissed."
Assuming the young master wanted to personally escort his wife back to her room, Gail and Jack exchanged knowing glances and smiled before quietly retreating.
"Quinn, Grandma's birthday is coming up. What kind of gift have you prepared for her?"
Knowing how much effort Jade was putting into this, he wondered if Quinn—the person his grandmother actually adored—was doing the same.
Quinn reached out to take her crutch, but Miles didn't let go. He stepped closer, seemingly intending to support her himself.
Quinn immediately retracted her hand, completely avoiding his physical touch.
Miles's hand froze in mid-air before he dropped it, feigning indifference.
"Grandma Evelyn loves Artisanal Silkwork. I'm already taking care of it."
Miles had been waiting for her to ask for his help. If she had admitted she needed him to procure a priceless gift for her, he would have easily agreed.
Instead, she bluntly stated she was handling it herself—and that it was Artisanal Silkwork. His brow furrowed instantly.
"You're preparing it yourself? Let me remind you, don't just buy some cheap imitation online and try to pass it off as the real thing."
"Jade is also gifting Grandma authentic Silkwork. If yours looks like garbage in comparison, I suggest you don't even bring it out. It'll just be a humiliating embarrassment!"
