Chapter 6 The Stein Representative
(Natasha)
Walking into the Blackwood Gala feels more like stepping into a dangerous trap than a party.
Resting my hand lightly on Mason’s arm keeps me steady.
Every eye in the room watches us walk in.
Quiet whispers spread through the crowd as people stare in shock.
Arriving with Warren Global’s biggest rival while pregnant with the Warren heir is social suicide.
More importantly, it’s a public insult to the man who expects me to be his quiet, obedient wife.
Across the room, Chase freezes.
The drink in his hand almost spills over the edge of the glass.
For one short second, his polite mask drops to show pure, boiling anger. But he controls the explosion.
Years of business training help him hide his feelings behind a blank mask.
Placing his glass on a waiter’s tray, he walks through the crowd like a predator.
Stopping inches from me, his strong cologne fills the air.
He completely ignores Mason.
His dark eyes lock onto mine, making a silent, angry promise to make me pay for my sins.
“You look beautiful, darling,” he says smoothly.
His voice is loud enough for nearby people to hear.
Leaning close, his tone drops to a harsh whisper meant only for me.
“Don’t cause trouble, Natasha. I’m warning you. Bauer is watching. Help me win this deal tonight, and we’ll deal with this little rebellion later.”
Looking straight back at him, my face shows no emotion.
“Of course, Chase. Whatever you need to close the deal.”
A quick flash of relief crosses his face, quickly replaced by a smug smile.
He actually believes he’s still in control.
It seems he forgot who I was before he broke me down.
Offering his arm, he leads me away from Mason.
We walk directly to the center of the room, where Jeffrey Bauer is standing.
He gives Chase a quick nod before turning all his attention to me.
“Natasha,” Jeffrey says with a warm smile.
“It’s great to see you back in circulation. Chase tells me you’re focusing on your health right now, but your

thoughts on this deal would be very helpful. Warren Global’s offer is very aggressive.”
“Aggressive is one word for it,” I reply calmly, swirling the glass of sparkling water Mason grabbed for me earlier.
Chase smiles a proud, winning smile. He waits for me to praise his company.
He expects his loyal wife to say the words that will secure this business deal.
Taking a slow, deep breath, the air feels better than it has in months.
“However, Jeffrey, I’m not here to speak for Warren Global today.”
Complete silence falls over our small group.
“Chase was wrong about who I’m representing,” I continue.
My voice is just loud enough for the people nearby to hear every word.
“Chase and I are separated. I don’t work for Warren Global anymore. I’m officially representing Stein Mergers & Acquisitions. And I would love to set up a meeting to show you our much better offer.”
Pure shock registers on Chase’s face.
His jaw tightens so hard that a muscle twitches in his cheek.
He recovers quickly, forcing a stiff smile, but the damage is done. The news is already spreading across the room.
Giving a quick apology to a highly amused Jeffrey, Chase grabs my arm hard.
He pulls me toward a dark, quiet corner near the doors, hiding us from the crowd.
The second we’re alone, he loses control.
“What are you doing?” he hisses. His voice shakes with anger.
“You’re still my wife! You will not embarrass me in public and try to ruin my company!”
“I’m not your wife anymore, Chase.”
The words come out calm and controlled.
“I already signed the divorce papers.”
He freezes, narrowing his dark eyes.
“Liar. I checked the study. The papers are gone.”
“They’re in the top drawer of your desk at the office,” I tell him calmly.
“Right next to your private files. If you spent more time working instead of flirting with your mistress, you would have found them days ago.”
The muscle in his jaw feathers again.
Before he can continue arguing with me, a tall, strong figure steps into the dark space.
Mason doesn’t try to interfere. He simply puts his hands in his pockets, watching quietly. But his presence changes everything.
“This is a private conversation, Stein,” Chase growls.

“Stay away from my wife. Whatever inappropriate relationship you two started won’t save her from her actions.”
“There’s nothing inappropriate going on here, Warren.”
Mason’s voice is low and dangerous. He steps closer, not intimidated by Chase at all.
