She Was Never Just the Billionaire’s Wife (Natasha and Chase) novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Blood in the Water

(Natasha)

All the color drains from Sonia’s face, leaving her looking terrified.

A choked sound escapes her throat. 1

She spins around on her high heels and runs away from our dark corner as fast as she can.

Nathanial turns his cold stare toward Chase. The unspoken order in his look is very clear.

Fix this. Or else.

Cursing under his breath, Chase shoots one last angry glare at me before running after his lover.

A heavy silence falls over the quiet space.

Stepping out from behind the velvet curtain, Nathanial smoothly fixes his suit jacket.

Mason stays firmly by my side like a menacing bodyguard, but Nathanial completely ignores him.

“I apologize for the drama,” Nathanial says.

His tone is polite but completely lacks warmth.

“My sister is very sensitive.”

Meeting his eyes, a fake, polite smile crosses my face.

“There’s no need to apologize for Sonia, Nathanial. Her reaction is quite normal for someone who just realized her perfect man is actually a lying asshole.” 2

His sharp eyes sweep over me, taking in my expensive dress and my straight posture.

“I must admit, Mrs. Warren, this entire show is very surprising. I was told a very different story about your

current state.”

“It’s Ms. Kelly, not Mrs. Warren. And what were you expecting to see?”

“Moving into our specific social circle can be very overwhelming. Especially for someone not used to the pressure.

“Is that right?”

“Oh, yes.”

He swirls his drink. His voice drops into a very snobby tone.

“It takes a certain background to handle the demands of Chase’s world. It makes perfect sense that someone with a simpler upbringing might feel completely exhausted by the pressure. Forced to hide at home just to survive. Too tired to even care about how they look.”

It seems Sonia has been talking about me with her brother. It’s almost flattering.

A muscle jumps in Mason’s jaw, but a quick touch to his arm keeps him quiet.

“It’s a relief to see you haven’t completely broken down,” Nathanial continues.

“However, trying to return to the business world in your current state is a huge risk for someone who gets tired so easily.”

“I appreciate the concern about my energy, Nathanial,” my answer comes out smooth as silk.

“But I didn’t hide away because the job was too hard. I simply took a break from the false people.”

Before Nathanial can answer, heavy footsteps announce Chase’s return.

His face is dark with anger, and his tie is no longer perfectly knotted.

Sonia is nowhere to be seen.

“Nathanial,” Chase begins in a tight voice, “Let me explain-”

“Save it,” Nathanial cuts him off, his voice freezing.

“Make sure my sister gets home safely, Chase. We will discuss this disaster tomorrow.”

Without another word, Nathanial turns and disappears into the shiny crowd.

It looks like Chase is already having trouble with his future family. Poor thing.

Chase turns on me, breathing hard.

“Are you out of your goddamn mind? Do you know how much trouble you just caused?”

Playing the dutiful wife is officially over. The fight is on.

“You caused everything that happened today. All I want from you is a fast divorce.”

My demand is sharp and clear.

“And I will have full custody once the baby is born.”

A dark, ugly laugh escapes his chest.

He steps closer, trying to use his height to scare me.

He clearly forgot that I helped build his empire. I know his tricks.

“You’re crazy,” he sneers.

His eyes drop to my stomach.

“I will take care of all your financial needs. But you will never take my child from me.”

Letting his threat hang in the air for a second, my protective instincts kick in.

“I don’t want your money, Chase.”

The words come out soft, but they carry the weight of a serious promise.

“If you refuse to give me full custody, I will personally ruin every project you touch. I will tear up your deals, steal your investors, and drain Warren Global until there is nothing left of your precious company.”

For the first time since we met, true doubt shows in his dark eyes.
