With everyone already gathered in the dining room, Lyra instructed Liam to bring out the dish.
"I'm basically a culinary genius. Everyone, dig in."
The family took their seats. In the past, Andrea had always thought it would be wonderful for Lyra to marry into a massive fortune like Rowan's and live a life free of worries. But looking at her now, it was obvious that without the boss, Lyra was practically glowing with happiness.
Noticing Andrea hadn't taken a bite yet, Lyra wiped the slight condensation from her fingers and popped a piece of crab leg straight into Andrea's mouth, her eyes curving into a bright smile. "How is it, Andrea?"
Andrea chewed on the massive bite of crab. The rich, savory aroma of butter and salted egg yolk perfectly complemented the natural sweetness of the seafood. It was genuinely incredible.
"It's amazing."
"Then eat up. Stop zoning out." Lyra dug into her own portion.
The atmosphere around the long table was warm and completely relaxed as the group chatted and laughed effortlessly.
Between bites, Liam chimed in, "Miss Fairchild, the iPhone 18 just dropped. When are you planning to upgrade? I'm still using the old model you handed down to me ages ago."
He mumbled under his breath, "I've been wanting a new phone forever."
Lyra laughed effortlessly. "Since it's out, go to the store and pick one up. Just tell me the price, and I'll wire you the money."
Liam's face lit up instantly. "Awesome! Wait, does anyone want your old 17?"
He quickly scanned Caleb, Kayla, and even Andrea.
"No one wants it. It's all yours," Lyra said.
"Thank you, Miss Fairchild!"
Watching the warm, simple interactions unfold over dinner, a profound realization washed over Andrea. Away from Rowan Jameson's suffocating shadow, the Fairchild household was so beautifully calm and laid-back.
The truth was, without Rowan, Lyra was much happier.
...
A few days later, breaking news hit: Rowan had been involved in an accident in the Middle East.
He was supposed to be returning soon to finalize his marriage to the Wynter heiress, but his flight home had been indefinitely delayed.
Insiders reported that Charles and Victoria had both rushed to the Middle East, implying the situation was incredibly dire.
Caleb brought it up at home. "Rowan apparently had an accident abroad. Even his parents rushed straight into the danger zone. It must be severe, not just a minor scare."
The moment he touched down in Seaborne City, preparations for the Jameson wedding kicked into overdrive.
The Fairchild family even received a wedding invitation.
But the elegant, gold-lettered envelope simply sat ignored on the table.
Lyra's gaze swept over it once. Her heart sank slightly, but she refused to look at it again.
Delilah was too irritated by the sight of it to even bother opening it.
It wasn't until Caleb came home from work that evening that someone finally touched it. He picked up the invitation and broke the seal. "Rowan's wedding invitation is here. Lyra, come look—"
"Ah," he muttered, his eyes scanning the bottom of the card. Suddenly, his gaze locked onto the text, and he blurted out, "Groom: Rowan Jameson. Bride... Holy shit!"
Caleb snapped his head up, staring in utter shock at Lyra as she descended the stairs.
Seeing his expression, Lyra froze on the steps.
Curious, Kayla hurried over and leaned in to inspect the invitation. The moment she read the bride's name, she gasped in disbelief. "How is this possible?!"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
