The car pulled smoothly into the driveway of Blackwood Manor. Rowan shed his freezing, corporate hostility, burying the churning emotions deep within his eyes. By the time he pushed open the bedroom door, his face was a mask of absolute calm.
"Have you eaten?"
The bedroom was bathed in soft light. Lyra was sitting in front of the vanity mirror, slowly and meticulously brushing her long hair. Her dark, thick locks tumbled smoothly past the wooden comb. She wore a loose, pristine white nightgown, her post-pregnancy figure completely unaffected, looking as radiant and stunning as ever.
Because she wasn't breastfeeding, the baby was fed the finest imported baby formula. The Elite Maternity Nurse managed everything from feeding schedules to daily care and early development planning. No one dared use 'high-society rules' or 'motherly duties' to hold Lyra hostage.
To outsiders, she had everything anyone could ever dream of: a fiercely powerful husband, a life of absolute luxury, and a child treated like royalty by the entire Jameson family. She should have been completely content. But only Lyra knew the truth—the nightmare of her past life clung to her like a parasite, constantly reminding her that the peace she had now was nothing but an illusion.
Seeing his wife remain silent, Rowan didn't push. He turned and walked slowly into the adjoining walk-in closet. The LED strips flickered on automatically, the warm light outlining his sharp, towering silhouette.
Years of corporate warfare had forged his lean, powerful physique. He had broad shoulders and a sharply defined waist.
Rowan casually pulled a dark blue dress shirt off the rack. Through the half-open door, his peripheral vision remained locked on his wife at the vanity.
Lyra gripped the wooden comb, brushing her hair mechanically.
"If you're feeling suffocated here, once you're fully recovered from postpartum, I'll take you to the suburban resort for a few days to get away from the noise."
Rowan's voice drifted through the partially open door.
"Rowan!"
Completely breaking down, Lyra raised her hand and slammed her fists into his chest and shoulders, each strike fueled by agonizing, heart-shattering pain. Scalding tears poured down her cheeks as her shoulders trembled violently, her sobs echoing in the room.
"You're a monster! Even if you didn't love me, you watched me grow up. How could you treat me like that!"
Rowan's face was chalk-white. He stood completely still, letting her fists and slaps rain down on him without trying to dodge. His Adam's apple bobbed violently, but he couldn't form a single word.
She was forever trapped in the devastating shadow of their past life. She couldn't get out.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
