Caspian's face drained of color. "Rowan, that's all in the past!" he argued, his voice laced with panic.
Sitting at the head of the table, Alistair frowned. His cloudy gaze swept over the tense room. "What is this car crash you're talking about? Explain yourselves," he demanded.
Jasmine showed no signs of panic. Instead, she looked up calmly, meeting Rowan's icy glare with an air of complete indifference.
Rowan noted her reaction and gave a slight nod. "I assume you already knew."
Jasmine naturally knew the truth. Caspian had gotten drunk once, overwhelmed with guilt, and confessed to the car crash, apologizing to her in low tones. From that moment on, Jasmine knew that the accidents that had nearly claimed her life were all Caspian's doing.
But what could she do?
Caspian was still useful to her.
More than Caspian, she hated Lyra. Lyra had stolen her boyfriend, the love of her life. That fueled a far deeper hatred.
Victoria quickly stepped in to defuse the tension. "Rowan, Jasmine took a bullet for you. Even if you don't care for her, you should show some grace for what she did. Must we ruin the mood for everyone on a night like this?"
"That depends on who I'm supposed to be happy with," Rowan replied, his eyes covered in a layer of frost as he stared at Jasmine. "You know perfectly well that Caspian destroyed your body and left you barren for life, yet you still chose to be with him. Your real goal is to take revenge on the Jameson family, isn't it?"
"What?" Victoria stared at Jasmine in shock. "Is that true?"
Vivienne frowned sharply. If Jasmine was truly with Caspian just to enact revenge on the Jamesons, then the woman was terrifying. Her mind was dark, and her scheming went far beyond what anyone had imagined. Her sudden romance with Caspian hadn't made sense in the first place.
A faint smile touched Jasmine's lips. She neither denied nor admitted the accusation. She glanced around at the varying expressions of the Jameson family members before her gaze settled back on Rowan, her tone perfectly even.
Maisie drew in a sharp breath. Jasmine was truly bold for directly challenging Rowan like this. Was this a case of a lover scorned?
Victoria, moved by Jasmine's apparent magnanimity, intervened. "That's enough, Rowan. Let them handle their private affairs themselves. Why must you tear them down in front of everyone at the New Year's Eve dinner?"
Rowan scoffed, shooting his mother a cold look. "Weren't you the one who swore they'd never set foot in the Jameson home again? Do you have any idea how many progesterone shots my wife had to endure, how much she suffered? What, the moment your grandson is born, you just forget everything they went through?"
Victoria choked, suddenly at a loss for words. She had indeed said she wouldn't let them back in, but hadn't the dust settled on all that? Her eldest son was leaving her absolutely no dignity. "Is it a crime to want the family together? You're lecturing me in front of Vivienne and her husband. What do you take me for?"
Seeing Victoria on the verge of tears, Rowan coldly averted his gaze. "Family together? A married couple? I know perfectly well whether they're actually married or not."
"This so-called overseas marriage is nothing but a carefully fabricated lie from start to finish. The people I sent over found zero evidence of a marriage application, let alone legal registration. If you want to keep up this charade, I can have them check the local marriage registry right now and pull the public records to see if what you're saying is true."

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
