"One of my coworkers found out about Gigi. I can't let Gideon know right now. Every time we're together, he forces me to take birth control. He doesn't want me to have his child."

"What an absolute jerk!" Zoe rolled her eyes at the ceiling.

Lydia picked up her teacup, her expression thoughtful. "But at the same time, he absolutely refuses to get a divorce. He even fell out with his own mother over it. Sometimes I really just don't understand what goes through his head."

"He just doesn't know how to move on. That's why he's ruining a perfectly good life!" Zoe said with certainty. "If he refuses to divorce you, it means he still loves you! There's no other explanation."

"He most likely doesn't love me at all."

"He's just a walking contradiction and totally emotionally stunted!" Zoe declared.

"I'm just terrified he'll take Gigi from me, which is why I have to keep her hidden." Lydia let out a heavy sigh. "Once I save up a decent nest egg, I plan to send her abroad."

"How much is the prize money for that design competition?" her best friend asked casually, leaning against the doorframe. "Even with money, you might not be able to go abroad. Are you going to raise her alone? You aren't even divorced yet."

"The prize is over a hundred thousand dollars."

Zoe's eyes lit up as she stared at her. "How confident are you? Just focus on getting the cash first!"

"Eighty percent." Lydia was being modest.

"Mommy!" Just then, Gigi ran over with a kite in her hands. "Mommy, come fly the kite with me! The wind is picking up!"
