Shredded Vows: The Billionaire’s Secret Heir novel Chapter 63

Zoe leaned down and patted the child's head, speaking with immense patience, "Gigi, go inside and play. There are some fresh baked sweet potatoes in the kitchen. Go peel one for yourself, but be careful, okay?"

"Yay! I love sweet potatoes! Thanks, Auntie Zoe!" The little girl grabbed her kite and happily ran inside.

Lydia watched her daughter disappear through the door. Shoving her hands into her coat pockets, a flash of guilt crossed her eyes. She pulled her gaze away and asked, "A month? Where am I supposed to get a father for her?"

"Is that billionaire husband of yours dead? Her dad is right there. What do you mean 'get one'?" Zoe casually munched on her snacks. "Instead of living in constant fear, why not just lay your cards on the table? How do you know what he'll actually think?"

The very thought made Lydia's stomach tie itself into knots. She always imagined ten thousand different worst-case scenarios, exhausting herself in the process.

"Alright, alright. You should head out and get some rest. If you're not feeling well, you need to make time for a check-up. You've seemed completely drained lately," Zoe advised kindly, eyeing her critically.

"Okay, okay, I will." Lydia pulled her scarf tighter. "I'm leaving Gigi in your hands. Bye."

Driving back, she had to admit her energy levels were at an all-time low. She found herself getting drowsy way too easily.

Plus, she couldn't keep food down and had zero appetite.

So, she immediately used her phone to book a doctor's appointment. She planned to get some blood work done tomorrow; she couldn't afford to let her body completely break down.

Mostly, she'd been taking a lot of birth control pills lately and assumed the severe side effects were wreaking havoc on her system.

Gideon didn't come home that night, but Lydia was used to it by now.

She sketched in her study for an hour, drank the warm milk Mrs. Gable had prepared to help her sleep, and went to bed alone.

The next morning, the alarm went off but somehow completely failed to wake her.

It wasn't until the alarm blared for the third time that she groggily opened her eyes, grabbed her phone, and rushed to get ready.

"I'm so exhausted lately. Am I going into hibernation or something?" she muttered to herself. Taking a deep breath, she ate a quick breakfast and headed out.

Only to find her car wouldn't start!

It just completely died without warning!
