Sign the Papers Mr. Langford novel Chapter 119

Now he was defending Wren.

This was a terrible sign.

Willow crouched down, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Leo, Grandma isn't yelling at you. She's just really worried about your mom and dad."

Leo stared at her, refusing to speak.

He remembered what his mom had told him.

You don't have to take responsibility for everyone who cries.

And not everyone who speaks softly won't end up hurting you.

He pressed his lips together and muttered, "I want to go upstairs and do my homework."

Without waiting for Eleanor's permission, he hugged his backpack and bolted up the stairs.

Eleanor's chest heaved with rage. "Look at him! Look at what Wren has turned him into!"

Willow stood up, gracefully lowering her gaze.

"Wren probably just wants Leo to be independent."

Eleanor sneered. "He's a child. What does he need to be independent for? The adults haven't even sorted out this mess, and he's already throwing attitude."

Willow was immensely satisfied with that response.

The more Eleanor hated Wren for establishing boundaries with the child, the more secure her own position became.

But she couldn't let it show on her face.

Instead, she offered gently, "Eleanor, should I go check on Leo?"

"No." Eleanor snapped. "Let him sit in his room."

Willow nodded, but her eyes drifted back to the court documents on the coffee table.

She saw Wren's name printed clearly.

Wren Whitaker.

The three words were neatly typed, just like the woman herself—cold, clean, devoid of unnecessary emotion.

Willow suddenly found it deeply offensive.

She pulled out her phone and texted Jude.

[Jude, the court mediation notice just arrived at the Langford Estate. It seems Wren really isn't going to turn back.]

Jude replied in less than a minute.

[Are you okay?]

Willow stared at the three words and gave a tiny smirk.

Instead of answering how she felt, she typed:

[I'm just a little worried that the Langford Recovery Project will take a hit. If Wren's situation keeps escalating, Stellaris might use the public backlash to crush Langford Medical.]

Jude's reply was instant.

[Keep the project separate from personal matters. I'm heading to Langford Medical tomorrow to restructure the PR narrative.]

Willow lowered her eyes.

PR narrative.

That was exactly what she wanted.

Lawrence's mind was being pulled in a dozen directions right now—by Wren, the kid, Margaret, and Vivian Vance. She couldn't just sit around waiting for him to notice her. She had to tether herself inextricably to the Langford project.

As long as the project needed her, she wouldn't be tossed aside.
