Lawrence strode down the hallway, his suit jacket draped over his arm. His features were so icy and commanding that people instinctively parted to let him through.
He stopped right in front of Wren.
"Come home tonight."
It wasn't a request.
It was an order.
Wren looked at him, finding the entire situation absurd.
Yesterday, she had been the ignored Mrs. Langford, cast aside by his entire family at the birthday party.
Today, she was just here to discuss a project, yet he felt entirely entitled to demand she return.
It was as if her spending one night away from the Langford Estate was nothing more than a childish tantrum that had gone on long enough.
"I have plans tonight," Wren said.
Lawrence frowned. "What plans?"
Wren replied evenly, "Personal matters."
Lawrence's expression grew even colder. "Do you have to speak to me like this?"
"Mr. Langford," Julian intervened smoothly, his voice mild but entirely unyielding. "Ms. Whitaker's schedule tonight consists of an industry networking event arranged by the Stellaris team. She isn't here to report her personal life to Langford Medical."
Lawrence shifted his predatory gaze to the other man.
The two locked eyes.
One exuded freezing dominance, the other an unbothered calm.
The tension in the air snapped tight like a wire.
Wren didn't give them the chance to continue their standoff.
She stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the lobby.
"Dr. York, let's go."
Julian stepped in beside her.
As the doors slowly slid shut, Lawrence remained rooted in place.
Wren didn't look at him.
Not even once.
By the time Lawrence returned to his office, Xavier was reorganizing the morning's paperwork.
The stack of pending documents still sat at the corner of the desk.
