Chapter 233
Eleanor POV
The setting sun cast a golden glow over the gathering, highlighting the flowers I had arranged myself, transforming the simple
garden into something magical.
When we exchanged rings, Derek slipped a band etched with tiny stars onto my finger, a meaningful callback to the silver star pendant he had once given me. His eyes held mine, full of promise and certainty. I thought of that first ring he had given me – chosen hastily, presented without emotion. This one he had selected with care, understanding its significance, knowing it would be with me always.
1, Derek Wells, take you, Eleanor, to be my wife,” he said, his voice strong and clear, carrying across the garden. ‘Not for three years, not as a favor to anyone, but for all the days of my life. I choose you today and every day that follows.”
Tears blurred my vision as I repeated my own vows, promising to love him through whatever challenges we might face. My voice trembled slightly, but my heart was steady. This was what I had waited for not just Derek’s love, but the chance to love him openly, without reservation or fear.
When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, Derek lifted my veil with gentle hands, his eyes never leaving mine as he leaned down to seal our vows with a kiss. Unlike our first wedding kiss – brief, formal, for show this one lingered, full of promise and shared joy. The guests’ applause seemed distant, secondary to the rhythm of our hearts beating in unison.
As we turned to face our friends and family, I felt a sense of completion I had never known before. The orphaned girl had found her home not in a place, but in a person. The woman who had accepted a marriage of convenience had discovered that real love was worth waiting for. And 1, Eleanor Wells, had finally become not just a name on paper, but the beloved wife of a man who had chosen me with his whole heart.
