The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 165

I was genuinely taken aback by Zoey's audacity.

Even if she didn't know the exact extent of Ferris's status or the Sterling family's immense power in Port Capital, she had to have heard the rumors. They weren't the kind of people you could just casually call up.

And yet, here she was, asking me—the woman who was secretly his wife—for a favor.

In the social hierarchy of Capital General, considering her blatant closeness with Ferris, I was the absolute last person she should be asking.

So why come to me?

Had she sensed the strange dynamic between Ferris and me and decided to test the waters?

Recalling the calculating look in her eyes as she watched the Escalade drive away, I answered with a counter-question. "You're joking, right? If you can't reach the Sterlings, how could a lowly anesthesiology intern like me possibly contact them?"

"To be honest, Ferris and I aren't quite at that stage yet," Zoey replied earnestly, dripping with fake sincerity. "If this wasn't such an emergency, I'd never dare ask you for a favor."

I met her gaze evenly. "Unfortunately, I can't help you."

Seeing my firm rejection, she awkwardly twisted the hem of her jacket. "Selena, I heard Dr. Lennox went to middle school with Ferris. Do you think... maybe Dr. Lennox would have their contact info?"

Suddenly, the pieces clicked into place. So this whole convoluted charade was just a ploy to get me to use Leon Lennox.

But at a critical moment like this, I wanted to keep Leon as far away from this mess as possible. I certainly wasn't going to drag him into it. "Dr. Zeller," I declined politely, "The Medical Board is in the middle of an investigation. I think it's best we don't do anything rash right now."
